Ryder P.O.V
"Hey Mom, Dale!" I close the front door behind me, drop my bag and swiftly walk to the kitchen. The smell of something cooking pulls me in.
"Good afternoon Ryder. How was school?" I see mom sitting at the kitchen table, reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" with a plate of eggs and bacon.
I will never understand why she loves eating breakfast for dinner.
"It was ok. I had to help out with some school dance coming up, for extra credit." I walk over to her and kiss her temple, making her smile a little.
"Is there anything for me?" I scan the room to see if she left even a little crumb of bacon or something.
"I made a plate of Rice Krispes. They're in the oven."
I jog to the oven and open it to see a pile of the tasty treats waiting for me to eat all of them. I am so glad she is a stay at home mom; she has time to make sweets and do my laundry.
God I love her.
If she wasn't my mom and was 30 years younger, I'd totally make her my wife, but she has Dale. Dale's her second husband after she divorced my dad, but they're at good terms; they talk and I go to his house over the weekends.
Dale's great though. They've been married since i was 12 and are great parents. He makes my mom happy and also convinces her to do our laundry.
God I hate laundry.
"So are you going anywhere tonight?"
She sets down her book and fixes her attention on me, while she eats.
"I might go to a party." I set the plate on the table, pull up a chair to start digging in, while I sit across from mom.
Who's party?" I look up from eating to her apprehensive face
Here we go.
"It's my cousin's party." I slowly tell her.
"No." She continues eating.
"Mom, come on." I get up from the table and put the empty dish inside the dishwasher.
Damn those were good.
"No. He's a bad influence on you." She gets up to put her dish in the sink, but I reach for it before she reaches the sink and place it in the dishwasher.
"Mom he used to be your favorite nephew, can't you just let that shit go."
She is always dwelling in the past.
"Don't curse in my house and no, I can't and won't let it go. He showed his true colors that day." She goes to the sink, grabs the dish cloth over the faucet and starts wiping the kitchen table.
She's angry cleaning. Not again.
"Fine mom, don't let it go, but I am still going to that party." I walk out of the kitchen and hear her say, one last time, that I can't go and if I do, I will be grounded and banned from the Xbox.
Like hell she'll ban me.
______________
"There." I finish spraying Axe across my chest, before I put on my crisp gray T-shirt. It's form fitting and matches well with my dark Lee's.
I don't mean to sound like a chick, but damn, I'm sexy! I turn a coupon of times in the bathroom mirror, showing off my biceps, flat stomach, and my "V" line leading to the goods.
After running a comb through my hair one last time, I run downstairs ready to head to the party, when I see them.
They're sitting in the living room. It may sound like a normal thing, but the TV isn't on and they are staring at me.
