A shout was what distracted me.
Birds flew from their posts in the trees, and I cursed at the sight of my deer racing off into the distance. I had been so close, and I had tracked it for miles. A lot farther out than Eric said I could go.
It was a shout that I recognized all too well though, I wonder what Five had gotten himself into now. I planned to ignore it, and venture on to find my hunt, my instincts were driving me crazy with the lust to strike it down. I could imagine the warmth of its coppery blood, hot against my cool skin.
'THEY'RE GOING TO KILL ME!' Five's voice shouted through my head, making me stumble forward, and trip over. I growled when I crash landed into the snow, 'Well, if they catch me-'
A frustrated shout left me, because of course Five would be so intrusive, it had been the first time in forever our bond was used. We didn't need to use it regularly anymore, I don't know why we suddenly stopped. Maybe it was out of respect for Three, to give him privacy.
But that didn't matter now, not when Five had gotten himself into another bout of deadly trouble. Not so surprising, in my opinion.
I broke into a hasty run through the heavily snowing woods, I could feel the beat of my heart start to race from the anticipation. I wanted to fight; I needed this outlet. I don't think that I had ever moved so fast before, the thrill of it was like a shot of adrenaline to my heart.
'Six! Stay where are you!' Two demanded through the bond, his voice was strong and commanding, but I didn't have a chance to answer, 'You don't need to get into this!'
I broke through the treeline in time to see him land a solid punch on one of the twin's face, whilst the other had Five in a deadlock. I was only able to tell the two of them apart because of their different scents; it was impossible for me to mix them up, but I always did forget their names.
I don't know where the sudden explosion of confidence came from, all I knew was that I was ready to fight. I wanted to. Flashes of blood splatter cut through my fractured mind, making me hesitate for a moment; could I live with myself if I spilled more blood?
Or would it be easier to watch Five be hurt, or Two?
The twins were built, their bodies carved from lean muscle. Short, coppery hair was normally tousled, it looked more like a fox brown, actually. I'd never seen real twins before, so it startled me at first.
They shared identical piercing brown eyes except...right now they were glowing an ethereal shade of blue, and that was freaking me out.
A loud shout escaped me as I launched myself towards the one who had Five, colliding with a back made of sheer muscle, and baring my teeth as I clamped down on his shoulder. Huh, this one was Warren. He let out a ferocious roar, and sliced one hand through the air just above my head.
His fingernails had stretched into carved talons, longer than my own when I had gone savage. A series of fractured memories that I was trying to block out. If Warren had caught me with them, then I wouldn't be surprised if they cut deep into my bone, and scar me for life. And there was no way I was going to let him scare me!
"STOP THIS!" Eric roared, storming out of the front door, distracting me. Warren took the chance and grabbed me, a pained scream escaped me as his nails dug into my arms. He tore me off his back, and onto the ground. I could've sworn that something snapped, "Ripper! Control your beasts!"
Ripper didn't look at all concerned as he stepped out of the front door, although: he was the last thing on our minds. Eric glared at him, tearing his gaze from him, and back to the unfolding scene; a fight that was probably caused over something stupid.
