A massive smile was plastered across their face as they laughed, tears streamed down their face.
"I'm so weak." Their voice cracked and they burst into laughter again.
I opened my mouth, but they cut me off.
"No, don't say anything. Don't pity me. Jordan, I do these things because I'm so far gone, because I'm so pathetic." They give a harsh, half-laugh, tears pouring their cheeks.
"No." I snap.
They look up at me in surprise.
"Alex, you are by far the strongest person I know. You pull shit like this because you are keeping yourself together. You can't-you won't break." I look them in the eyes as I say this, and don't dare look down.
The room is silent for a second, just Alex and I staring straight into each other's eyes.
Then they burst out laughing again, their cheeks turning bright red.
"Alex-"
"Shut up." They cut me off, and their laughter turns to sobs as they pull me into a hug, their thin fingers clinging onto my shirt as if someone was trying to pull them away. I smile softly and hug them back, rubbing circles into their back as their small frame trembles in my arms.
