Chapter 14 Anticipation
Bootcamp week 10 (Aug 13 & 14)
At our daily debriefing, Gunner got up to make an announcement. "Tomorrow each of your teams will arrive, if they aren't already here with you. So the day's schedule will be slightly different. We will have a welcome to camp breakfast, followed by time to get your teams settled. Some of you will need to be rearranged from your current housing to something that will fit your needs." He was looking at Owen and I. "You will have until lunch to get everyone situated. After lunch, we will have a three hour calisthenics with Sergeant Cane. This is for ALL team members to attend. Followed by detail, dinner, and a debriefing with the weeks War Games informational session. You will then be dismissed for the night. Are there any questions?"
No one said anything. Gunner nodded and walked to the far wall where he folded his arms over his chest and leaned back against the wall.
I watched as they went through the report of everyone's progression. I was starting to have glowing reviews with each course I completed. No more tacos for me! Toot toot! Yes! The Sang Express has become more of a bullet train. Nothing is going to stop me now!
As soon as our debriefing concluded, I jumped from my seat bouncing on my toes with pent up excitement. Owen chuckled, "You did well, Love. Let's go to our cabin and get to bed."
"I don't know if I can sleep. I feel like I'm almost buzzed, like I have drank two grande Caffé Vanilla Frappuccinos from Starbucks." I spun around for no other reason than I needed to release some excitement.
"When this adrenaline high you are doped on finally crashes, you are going to be zapped. And I am almost positive we will be woken up extra early by eight, just as eager, men."
"Should we just wait up for them to get here?"
"No. I think what you need is for us to go on a run. Then, while you take a hot shower, I will get you a hot cup of camomile tea made. That should help settle you right down."
---------------
I should let Owen pick my lottery numbers for me. He is better than the weatherman at predicting storms. Sure enough, at 5am on the dot, a herd of elephants, also known as my fiancés, came crashing into our cabin. I sat up with such a fright that my stomach protested with a wave of nausea. I fell back onto the bed and draped my arm over my face, taking deep breaths to calm my racing heart and rolling stomach.
Two minutes later I was fine. But, I was also looking at nine worried faces. "This is what I was explaining to you earlier this week, Sean." Owen stated, the concern evident in the sound of his voice.
"I have never seen someone change to as white as a ghost, from just low iron, so instantly." Sean took hold of my wrist and took my pulse. I just laid there knowing it was futile to object. He is a doctor after all. "Pulse seems fine." Gabriel was holding out a thermometer without Sean asking for it. He stuck it under my tongue and picked up my hands. He was inspecting my fingers and my nails. He rotated my hands at the wrists then did the same to each of my feet and ankles. The thermometer came out of my mouth. "Temperature is normal. No swelling on her hands or feet. Although, your fingertips do appear dehydrated."
North went into the bathroom, drawing my attention to his movements, but immediately going back to Sean since he kept on with my assessment. "Joints seemed fine, too. I brought some iron supplements and some Vitamin C supplements for you to take everyday, okay Pookie?"
"Why the Vitamin C?" I asked as North returned and handed me a glass of water. I drank it all and handed him back the glass with a smile of thanks.
