"All we do is drive. All we do is think about the feelings that we hide" ~Halsey
(a/n this song is kind of a basis for the whole story, so if you haven't listened to it, please do. A lyric video is linked is up there, i promise you won't regret it :) )
"I used to have a dog back in Cheshire," Harry mentioned out of the blue as we whizzed along the 80 the next day.
I raised my eyebrows. "Really? What kind?"
"I don't even know," he laughed, "she was a really confusing mut. There was a little bit of Collie with some Beagle and a German Sheppard, I think."
"That does sound confusing."
Harry just hummed in response, leaving the car in a short silence.
Short, because he soon went of on an excited speech on his dog Queenie and their so called "adventures", most of which included the small patch of forest behind their yard.
Th excitement in his voice was enough to capture me completely. I nodded and hummed in all the right places, though I didn't process a word he said. My attention was focused more on Harry himself, rather than the words he spoke.
In that moment, I felt as though I was seeing him for the first time. Sure I had seen him before, but I hadn't seen him. Not this intensely.
I hadn't seen his eyes like this, so lively and bright, twinkling with every word he said. Or his lips, pink and soft, curling around every word in a celestial, yet sinful way. I hadn't seen his facial structure, with the sharp jaw and soft cheeks, indented with dimples as he smiled. I saw his tattoos for the first time, hugging his firm biceps and jumping out at me one by one, each calling for attention in an indearing manner. I hadn't taken time to notice his chocolate curls and the little fly ways, falling in his face and seeming to have a mind of their own.
Though I only watched him for about 5 minutes, it felt like it's own little eternity. I tried my hardest to memorize him, wanting nothing more than for this moment to last.
But, even the most beautiful moments pass.
Harry stopped talking after awhile, and after not hearing a response from me, he turned to me and caught my eye.
I snapped out of my trance immediately, trying my hardest to keep the blush frim crawling up my neck. I averted my eyes to the fidgeting fingers on my lap and Harry chuckled.
"You okay?"
I just nodded before changing the radio station from a random 90s song to The Chainsmokers. We both sang and danced along to the music for a little while, before a comfortable silence fell between us once again.
The landscape around us had turned quite rocky, and the road wound through tunnels and over mountain passes, contrasting the bland Indiana lanscape we had passed through just yesterday. The rocks around us seemed to soak in the heat, projecting it around the area.
A grin made it's way to my face as the sound as some familiar high pitched violins oozed out of the speakers, bouncing off the walls of the car.
"My hands wrapped around a stick shift, swerving on the 405, I could never keep my eyes off this."
I sang quietly, not wanting to ruin the moment as Halsey's song perfectly described our situation.
"My neck, the feeling of your soft lips illuminated in the light, bouncing off the exit signs I miss."
I loved the imagery in the song, as I was able to match a moment from our trip to every word she sang.
"All we do is drive. All we do is think about the feelings that we hide. All we do is sit in silence, waiting for a sign. Sick and full of pride. All we do is Drive.
