Chapter 2

More Training

Aiden opened the door and there stood Owen. "Hi...." I said as more of a question. "Are you ok? You were screaming," He asked. I nodded. "Must have been a nightmare," I replied. He nodded. "Oh and uh you have to start training to see where your skill level is," he added. "Right ok be there in a minute," I said. He nodded and walked away. I closed the door and changed into black leggings and a camo sports bra that I usually trained in. I put my hair into a bun, the bangs stayed down. I laced up my combat boots and walked to the training room where Jack and Gwen stood. "Hi," They said. I waved. "You ready for training," Gwen asked. "I trained for the CIA how hard can this be," I asked. Jack nodded. "I'm going to test your fighting skills and instincts," Jack explained, "and Gwen will test your shooting skills." I nodded. I stood on the mat in my fighting stance. I was firmly planted but ready to move at a second's notice. Jack looked at me, "Ready?" I nodded. He swung and my heart slowed. My surroundings seemed to go black and white and everything around me went in slow motion. I ducked quickly and slid out of the way; speed returning to normal. I was used to slowing my perception mentally. "Impressive," He said. He swung again and everything slowed. Logic and tactic lead me with one choice. I grabbed his wrist and under his shoulder as I flipped him onto the floor. Everything returned to normal speed. "I like her, she's good," Gwen said. I gave Jack a hand up. "Alright, I'm not going to go easy I'm going to try not to hurt you, but make it as real as possible," he said reasurringly. "Alright," I confirmed. He threw a few punches each time seemed to slow and I swerved and dodged out of the way only getting skimmed once on the shoulder. I spun around, and he did a back hand spring to face me. I, however, caught his leg landing him on his back. He sprung up and I shot a punch to the side not hard, but enough to feel it. He tried to kick me and I slid out of the way grabbing his foot twisting him under and pulling his other leg out from under before pinning him. Gwen started clapping after Jack tapped out. I stood up giving him a hand up.

I went with Gwen to a shooting range. I picked up the gun, and assembled it then pulled back and fired from 60 meters away which was 30 meters from the first practice shot. The fire rang out from the semi-automatic pistol and I smiled at the bulls-eye with all 12 bullets in the clip. I unloaded it and put it down. "Alright, clearly you're more advanced than any of us I guess your physical testing is done," Gwen said the awe hidden in her voice. I half smiled. "Cool," I said. I walked up to the main room. It was hard to miss Owen and Toshiko basically trying to swallow each other. I walked to my room. After showering I change into black cargo pants and an off the shoulder red tee. I laced up the boots again and dried my hair putting it in a ponytail. I had just as I finished an alarm started blaring. I walked out confused. What the hell was that? I walked to the main room Tosh was quick at work on the computer. Jack ran up, "What's going on," he asked. "The rift.... it- It's opening," Tosh said. More like fracturing gladly none of the entities I faced came out but all of a sudden it closed and a man with dark hair in World War One clothing appeared. "Toshiko?" He asked. "Tommy!" She exclaimed and ran over and hugged him. "TOSHIKO!" Owen exclaimed as the rift reopened and snapped closed again with her on the other side. I stood there in shock and everyone lunged but she was gone. I saw it affected Owen the most, but he was hiding it well. They slowly stood up. "She-she's gone," Owen stammered. I guess he really liked her. "Bring her back," He said looking at me. "Wh-what," I asked. "Open the rift and bring her back please," He pleaded. "I ca-" Jack cut me off, "Even if she could we could destroy the whole of reality,"he explained to Owen. "WE CAN'T JUST GIVE THE FUCK UP," Owen shouted in Jack's face. Jack kept calm, "There's nothing we can do I'm sorry," he said. "Well we can talk to her," I chimed in. "Please," Owen asked nodding. I nodded and took a step forward. Owen faced me now. I held my hands out and he placed his in mine. My head tipped forward and jolted up. All I saw was Toshiko talking. "Hello," She said. It started to become clear and next I know I'm falling and Owen is catching me pleading for Tosh not to leave. I regained my balance and stood up. I hugged him a bit awkwardly as he broke down and started to cry. I looked at Gwen unsure of what to do but she just gave a thumbs up so I guess I was doing the whole consoling thing right. Jack mouthed he was going to look for Ianto and quietly left; Gwen leaving with him. I stood there awkwardly still. Aiden must have warmed up to everyone by now being he was fine with me interacting with them.

Owen stood upright and wiped his eyes. "I-I'm sorry" He says a bit hoarsely. "It's ok," I consoled, "I know what it's like to lose people you care about." He half smiled. "C'mon let's find Ianto," I said trying to take his mind off of what just happened. He nodded and we started towards a part I hadn't seen before it's where they contained the aliens. "Jack," I heard Gwen shout as gunshots went off. Owen and I took off sprinting.
