Chapter 6
Look Who Finally Showed Up.
"A friend of mine thinks there's something we should investigate," Jack said. "But how do you know they're a credible source," I asked. Why was no one else questioning this. "I trust this person with my life," he defended. "But you didn't answer my question," I rebuked. "Jodie," Ianto muttered a warning. "What? Look I respect your decisions as Captain but can't we at least know if this source is reliable or not," I asked. I guess you could say I had trust issues. The CIA had used me before but I vowed never again. "Which is perfectly reasonable. This source did an investigation of his own and disguised himself as a worker. He found there where experiments going on, experiments with alien technology," Jack explained. I sat back relaxing a bit. "Alright then," I said. We were each equipped with a gun holster belt and I covered it. I kept my jacket open revealing my emerald green tee shirt. We walked to the van and drove to the place. We had to change in the back of the van. I was the first and apparently more comfortable than they were, changing. I took off the black jacket and put on my wine red one and kept the jeggings and boots. I pulled my hair into a ponytail. Ianto dropped Jack and me off first being we were the first ready. Jack was in jeans a hoodie and sneakers. "Holy shit you look like a normal person," I joked. "Very funny," he said sarcastically and chuckled. Ianto and Gwen showed up. "Follow my lead," Jack said. I nodded following behind. We got to the front door and I noticed we were all dressed as normal adults. Jack walked to the front desk. "Hello," he said with an academy winning smile. The ginger with freckles and green eyes was instantly swooned. "Hello. Do you have an appointment scheduled," She asked. "Actually, Dr. John Smith is here to give us a tour we're going to apply," Jack said. "I'll call him up for you," She said. He nodded and faced us. Gwen smiled teasingly and Ianto looked a bit uncomfortable. I just nodded. All of a sudden a man brushes past me knocking me into the counter. "Watch it will ya," I asked rudely. "I'm so sorry," the man apologized facing me. He was maybe 6'1". Fair skinned, brown eyes, and amazing fluffy hair. "Hey Doc," Jack said. "Jack," He said hugging him. "I see you met Jodie," Jack added. "Oh she wasn't on the team last I saw you lot," He said. He sounded like he had a bit of Scottish heritage. "Where's ummm, Tosh and Owen," He asked. "Wait this is the man when the Daleks moved the earth," Gwen said in a hushed voice. "Glad you remembered Gwen," he replied with a boyish smile. I looked at him with an eyebrow raised in confusion. I had an odd feeling around him. He seemed depressed, but bouncing with excitement and joy. Hundreds of years old, but like a child on Christmas morning. He seemed like a dangerous person constantly in life and death situations; always endangering those around but the safest man alive to be with. "Right ok let's head up then eh," Dr. Smith said. I followed and I guess I zoned out for most of that conversation.
I started to fall behind on purpose taking a longer look observing everything that was off. I joined them catching up again and we stopped in his office and he looked around. I let Aiden pause the filming of the camera's in the room. He closed the room and noticed the camera. "Huh, it's off," Smith pointed out and looked at us. "Right ok. In the D wing they're testing on people some being converted to weavill's others I don't even know what they've become," he said in a serious tone. I didn't think before speaking and, "Woaaah your hair is like, quivering with emotion," slipped. I clamped my hand over my mouth and a muffled reply came through, "Sorry didn't think that through." I removed my hands. "It's fine," he replied chuckling. "One of you needs to hide in the bathroom. To let us in," Jack said. "I'll do it," Gwen said. I nodded. Aiden turned off the pause in the cameras. "Let's go then yeah, hope you enjoyed the tour," Dr. Smith said. We walked back to the front desk and left. We walked to the back door waited outside.
I sat between a dumpster and the wall hugging my knees to my chest. Ianto was behind me, with Jack in front. Owen walked over. "Look who finally showed up," I teased. He sat in front of Jack not even acknowledging any of us. I faced the dumpster and closed my eyes. It was only noon, and I heard one of the guys' stomach growl. I pulled a granola bar out of my pocket holding it up. "You guys split it," I said eyes still closed. "Aren't you hungry," Ianto whispered. "Nope," I said in a whisper. I leaned my head back against the building and connected with Aiden seeing what he saw. He went through the wall and to the bathroom Gwen was sitting on the toilet not saying anything. Next Aiden followed Smith. He had a stick thing and of course the curious Aiden set it off and stopped. Smith looked around. Aiden quickly went to the office in the D wing. "That Smith guy, he seems too close to finding out about the experiments take him to room 240 D and make sure he doesn't come back out alive." I watched as Aiden followed the man and brought Smith to the room. Aiden watched silently and Dr. Smith was strapped to a table after being sedated. Aiden flipped the tray out of the man's grasp taking the tools away. He possessed the man and made him pick up the mess and inject something that looked like a deadly toxin but was really another sedative. He rolled Dr. Smith to a morgue with the body covered. He put him into a container and paused the cameras quickly pulling him out and hiding him in a closet with a note saying
'Wait for the pattern of
knock knock knockknockknock to come out' -Jodie&Aiden
Aiden unpaused it and made the man leave before leaving him. I opened my eyes. "Wake up," Jack said. "I wasn't asleep," I whispered back. "Your eyes were closed and your heart rate and breathing were slowed," Owen stated. I rolled my eyes. "I was linked with Aiden and watched as he helped your friend Dr. Smith. Who, for your information was about to be killed," I stated. I looked at the shadow. "For 8 hours," Ianto asked. "I might have slept for the first half," I said. We waited for a few more hours. Finally, only one hour left. I rolled up my sleeves and hugged my knees tighter. We could see our breaths and the wind funneled through the gap between the wall and the dumpster. I traded spots with Jack who was talking to Ianto. Owen looked at me. "You ok," he asked a bit concerned. I nodded. "I've been in worse," I said through chattering teeth. He smelled of faded alcohol and perfume. I looked at the dumpster and he looked out. The last car left around 11 and I peered over the dumpster. Coast clear. Aiden showed me no one in the building. He opened Gwen's stall using paper to write
'Coast is clear.' -Aiden
Minutes later the door was opened and we walked in. I walked off to the morgue. They followed behind and Jack filled Gwen in. I walked in and knocked the pattern. Dr. Smith unlocked the door and stepped out. "Thank you," he said. I just nodded. "Oh and my name isn't John Smith, it's the Doctor," He said. We nodded. "Wait... As in," Ianto said trailing off. Jack nodded. We walked into a hallway. I looked around people popping up. Of course I was the only who could see them. They would scream in my face and run. I walked shakily looking around wide eyed. The only one who picked up my strange behavior was Owen. I tried to pretend I couldn't see the helpless souls trapped here after being ripped from their life. I stopped and looked at a little girl sobbing in the corner. My heart broke a little. I stopped and she looked at me her eyes pitch black her Irises blood red her blonde hair flowed down to her stomach. She ran right up to me screaming in my face. I screamed and jumped and rolled out of the way as she ran through the wall. I stood up caught my breath leaning against the wall I buried my face in my hands. "Jodie are you ok," asked the Doctor "No I'm fucking not," I snapped. "THEY TURNED A SIX YEAR OLD INTO A MONSTER," I shouted furious at the people who did this. I slid down the wall. More things came out of the walls people of all shapes and sizes screaming and wailing and I was the only one who saw. I felt a hand on my should. "Don't fucking touch me," I said. I felt two hands on the side of my head. I jumped. Doctor let go jumping back. "What is it," Gwen asked. "No wonder you're freaking out Jodie, The screaming and wailing the ghosts of what happened, you can see it," he pointed and offered me a hand up. I stood up on my own and kept walking ignoring everything I saw. I separated from my emotions we have a mission and that's what I need to focus on. There were just mutilated people now pointing to a door. The Doctor walked past. I stopped and looked at it. I opened the door and saw a person sedated. "GUYS! She's still alive," I shouted and ran in untying her and dragged her out. I walked out and she stood up. She started screaming. "Sh sh, It's ok we're getting you out," I said. "Go run home as fast as you can," I said and with that she was off. I looked up and they just looked at me. "C'mon let's keep going," I said. I saw a weavil come right at me and I started to jump over it. Owen grabbed my shoulders to keep me still and it ran through us. I turned around and it ran through the wall. "Jodie, I'm taking you off of this mission," Jack said looking at me. I was standing up a bit straighter and looked up. "What," I asked in disbelief.
