Layla's POV
@@@@@@@@
I'm re-reading a book I never get tired of, The Hobbit. Finishing the last chapter I realized I haven't showered, not even when I woke up. I got up and showered changing into sweatpants and navy blue t-shirt. I sighed and sat myself on the seat next to the window. Looking up I saw Devin with a blue towel wrapped around his waist leaving his bare chest visible. My eyes widened at his tan skin and light brown hair. He seemed to notice and smirked at me with his green eyes twinkling . Don't think like that Layla don't think like that. I slapped myself to stop myself from thinking like that. Turning my head I saw Devin fully clothed and he looked confused. I smiled nervously and thank god Liam called me.
"Layla can you come here for a second." I sighed and waved goodbye to Devin. Devin's hair was damp and messy. He was actually not good at conversing, he was pretty awkward. He waved back awkwardly. Walking to Liam's room Klaus attacked my legs causing me to trip. I laughed Klaus was poking my stomach and asking where I was going. I pointed to Liam's room.
"I'm going with you, never ever trust Liam." I walked to Liam's room with Klaus close behind me. Knocking on his door a strong grip wrapped around my wrist. The grip pulled me inside Liam's room leaving Klaus outside.
"Let me in Liam!" I turned to open the door for Klaus but Liam took my wrist again. "No." I pressed back against the door not moving a muscle. "Come on weirdo." He sat on his bed patting the space next to him telling me sit down. Cautiously I took very little steps until I made it to the bed." How many times do I have to tell you I won't bite." He smiled showing his perfect teeth. Shrugging I looked up at his eyes there were now a lighter shade then when I met him at the airport.
"Okay, let's go over some, How can you put this boundaries...rules" his face became serious. I scooted away from him and nodded."One. Don't mess with my reputation at school please. Two don't tell anyone you live here. Three just don't mess with the girls at Garson High, they are just bitches and you wouldn't stand a chance. Four tell me if anyone is messing with you, you are my sister after all. Five please sit as far away from me during lunch." I nodded his fourth rule or boundary was sweet. "Understand Layla Parks?" I nodded again reassuring not to interfere with him at school. Liam opened his arms signaling me for a hug. I hugged him quickly and walked towards the door. "Welcome to the family." I smiled and walked into the hallway heading towards my room. Opening the door to my room I plopped down on my bed watching the clock's red hand move every second. It was now 9:47pm and I just wasted time watching the damn clock.
Music blared into my ears but it wasn't mine, it was Devin's from next door. I sat next to window to try to get him to turn it down. But his window was open and he was no where to be seen. A worrying feeling arose inside my body. I took a sweater and pulled it over my head and jumped out of my window to go look for Devin . Walking down the sidewalk by myself was fairly scary. A body that looked fairly still laid in the middle of the road. I ran over to it and poked it. It squirmed under my touch and it was a guy. His eyes opened to reveal a dark green which were Devin's eyes. A smile was placed on his lips. I took out my phone and typed in 'why the hell are you lying there you're going to get hit!' He took my phone and typed back 'you don't talk either? Just like me I needed to get out of the house' I reread it a thousand times to make sure I wasn't crazy. This guy in front of me was also mute? A loud sound hit my ears causing my hands to go to my ears. I turned around to see a car coming full speed towards me. Someone jumped on me to move me away from the car. Squirming under Devin I looked up into his green eyes and relaxed. I looked back to the trail of the car and saw my phone in a million pieces. 'Fuck fuck FUCK!' I said in my head over and over until I realized my phone had no hope. I turned around to see Devin looking quite amused. 'Middle Fingers Up If You Don't Give A Fuck' I smiled at the quote I just made and listened to it. Devin laughed at me his laugh was soothing yet sharp like a razor. You could get lost in it, and never find your way back. Which apparently happened to me I was in a trance. A hand moved in front of my face and pulled me back into reality.
'Back to our rooms?' Devin mouthed. I nodded the silence between us was rather uncomfortable. But I wasn't going to break the promise I made to myself. We reached the very small space in between our rooms. I tried to jump and grab the ledge. Instead of successfully climbing up to my room I fell backwards and waited for me and the ground to collide. Devin's arms caught me instead and I felt rather safe in them. The safest I felt since before the death of my family. Devin was looking at me with a playful smirk on his lips. I stood up slowly from Devin's arms and tried to climb up to my room again. I stood on Devin's shoulders which helped me to my room. I probably weighed a ton.
I looked back down at Devin and mouth thank you. He looked up and me and smiled. Devin turned to his room and jumped up successfully. Closing the window, a hand tapped my waist.
"Where were you Layla!" Klaus scolded me. I found my pencil and notebook and wrote down 'taking a walk'. "With Devin?" Klaus smiled showing his two front teeth missing. I nodded trying not to laugh."Mom wanted me to tell you school is starting on Monday." Monday Monday Monday, two days from now. 'Ok' I mouthed and poked his nose."Goodnight Layla, you're the best sister I've had. Well the only sister I had." Klaus turned around and skipped out of my room.
Tears started to stream down my face. I wasn't a good sister. I killed my brother and my parents. I wasn't ever going to be a good sister, a good daughter, a good partner. I'm never going to be. I sat by the window and started to cry even harder. Trying carefully not to wake up anyone.
