Chapter 13

Devin

I heard screaming from next door, a girl. Layla.

I stormed out of my house and opened their door. The screaming led to the kitchen.

"Stop Gwen!" Liam boomed.

Walking into the kitchen I saw a horrific scene. Layla was in a pool of blood that kept spreading. Gwen, above her connecting her fist with Layla's body.

I ran to Gwen and threw her over my shoulder. Turning to Liam I mouthed 'Help her'. While Gwen dug into my back.

"Freak! Let me down I'm not down!" Gwen yelled.

I walked out the front door and threw Gwen onto the street.

"If you come back here again, I swear to god you'll be dead." I said with clenched teeth.

I turned around to go check on Layla. Retracing my steps into the kitchen I saw a sight that was worse than the beating. Liam was kissing Layla. Her eyes locked with mine.

"I'm sorry." She said quietly.

"Don't be I get it." I tried to say calmly . I turned around clenching my fists together and walked out of the house.

Slamming the door, I screamed. The pieces left of my stitched up heart were completely gone.

I hate her, she knew I had feelings. Then then she did that?!

I took my red supra and sped into town. Not caring if I got into an accident.

Layla

Liam and I didn't talk after the kiss. Last thing we saw was Devin drive away in his car at a speed that was incredibly fast.

I sat in my room looking at Devin's window. His light wasn't on. His car was gone. He was gone. My heart dropped to my stomach.

It's all my fault. I hurt yet another person. And, and he may be dead because of me for all I know. I closed my eyes and my breathing became unsteady.

No Devin please don't do anything stupid.

There was a light knock at my door. I got up weakly and headed towards the door. I saw Liam standing there with his head low.

"Look Layla, I'm-"

I cut him off by slamming the door and continued to sit on my bed. Looking at Devin's window. Where is he?

Liam opened the door and continued.

"Look Layla I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I just-"

"You just what Liam? You just wanted to make me hurt another person? Don't you think I already did enough damage?"

"What do you mean?"

"First of all, do you not notice that Devin isn't home yet? He's been gone for 7 hours. Second, I broke rule 1,don't mess with your reputation. Now Gwen knows I live here, she knows "the freak" lives with you. I broke rule 2, don't let anyone know I live here. Again Gwen knows! And rule 3, I just messed with a bitch at school, I'm dead!"

Liam looked taken back.

"You actually remembered the rules?"

I rolled my eyes in annoyance and grabbed Liam by the back of his shirt. Dragging him to the bulletin board where I wrote his "boundaries/ rules"

He gave me a goofy grin and I shot him back a cold glare. Putting a finger on his boney chest.

"That's not the point! Devin is fucking missing! Do you not realize that?"

"Don't worry he'll be back." He walked out of my room. "Oh and Layla don't do stupid shit."

Oh trust me I won't do stupid shit, I'm worried.

There was another knock at my door after Liam left. I walked over to the door and opened it.

"Hi." Klaus looked up at me with his warm hazel eyes. "Is Devin back yet? I heard what happened."

I shook my head no.

"Can we go find him Layla?"

"I'm going to find him right now don't worry." I whispered in his ear.

"I'm going with you." Klaus stated.

"Why?"

"Because Devin was and still is a big brother to me, better than Liam sometimes. I care."

"Okay. Can you tell time?"

He nodded and smiled showing the big gap in between his teeth again. "Okay be back in 10 minutes little ginger." Giving him a kiss on his cheek.

He gave me a thumbs up and ran down the hall in his teenage mutant ninja turtle pajamas.

*10 minutes later*

I heard my door creak open, who I'm assuming was Klaus. I turned around and saw Klaus in black jeans, a grey hoodie, and converse.

"Why'd you change?"

"Because going out in my ninja turtles jammies is embarrassing." His cheeks turned to a light pink which made me smile.

I slid on my Dr.martens and motioned Klaus to follow me quietly.

"Shhhh, where do they keep the car keys?" I whispered going down the stairs.

Klaus wondered off and opened a door. He came back a few seconds later with car keys.

"That's the one to the black Nissan out on the street."

I took the keys and took Klaus's hand in the other and walked out of the house.

"Do you have your seatbelt on?" Safety comes first of course!

"Just go!"

"No! Put on your seatbelt!"

He sighed and I heard a click from the back seat.

"Alrighty." I turned the key in ignition and headed off into the knight.
