The place was much bigger on the inside and was filled with wizard and witches. Together they all created a very loud crown with tons of colors, no real trend being seen.
I held daddy's hand tighter as we walked over towards the backdoor that I knew would lead us to the Diagon Alley. Somehow, I must have gotten too close to the fireplace and when it suddenly turned green, I wasn't prepared and didn't have time to avoid the sooty person coming out of it.
" Hey watch where you land when you you use the floo system you-......!" I said and pushed the boy that was approximately fifty centimeters taller than me away from me. But I never finished my complaining because before that my eyes fell on the person in question's almost glowing orange hair.
" Sorry, my bad." the freckled boy - or more like teenager - which most likely was a Weasley said sheepishly.
" No it's okay, I was over reacting. I'm sorry, but correct me if I'm wrong, but you are a Weasley, right?"
" Yeah you right. Is it that obvious?" The boy answered and laughed nervously.
Underneah all of that soot, I guessed there was a pair of clothes that was pretty new or at least not hand-me-downs from some older brother which meant he must be one of the older sons of Arthur and Molly Weasley. He also looked like he was around fifteen, at most seventeen years old.
" Watch out!" he suddenly said and pulled me aside so that when yet another orange haired male came out of the fireplace.
This one I recognized directly, it was none other than a young Arthur Weasley that still had all of his hair left on his head.
" What's your name anyways? You know my last name but I know none of your names." he asked and I turned back to him.
" My full name is Dannie Beatrize Reed. But I prefer Dan or Danny. The other names are too girly." I said and I was just going to ask for his name when my dad found me.
" There you are my little dragon flame! I thought I lost you there for a second. Who's this?" Dad said with his embarrassing nickname of his as he stepped up beside me.
" I'm Chalie Weasley sir."
" Weasley? So you're related to Arthur Weasley then?" dad asked curiously.
Charlie was just about to answer when a man's voice exclaimed:"Oliver!"
Surprise was written all over my dad's face when he saw that the voice belonged to Author that came walking towards us.
" Arthur! My old friend! I've missed you. How's Molly and the rest of the kids? I heard you have seven children now! How do you manage!?"
" Oh well it's simple, really. I don't. Now this must be your child! Danie was it? Nice to meet you, my name is Arthur Weasley. I'm a friend of your dad's from school. I actually have a daughter the same age as you!"
" Lovely to meet you again Arthur. What brings you here?" dad asked as the four of us stared walking towards the entrance of the Diagon alley.
"We are shopping for the things Charlie here will need for this Hogwarts year. His letter came before the others' so we decided we'd buy his things first. And you?"
" We are here to buy me books! Dad told me about the wizard world not too long ago. But I have already finished all the books he owns from the magical society and want more!" I said happily as we stopped next to the trashcan on the Leaky Cauldron's backyard which showed us where the entrance to the street was.
" Really? Well isn't that great. Guess that means we can at least have each other's company until after we have gone to Gringots! " Mr. Weasley exclaimed happily as he touched the last brick in the wall with his wand.
The place he had touched started disappear and gave us a look on the busy street on the other side it.
I couldn't help but grin stupidly at the scene playing out in front of me. Witches and wizards in all colors and sizes walked around in a huge croud in front of us.
Beautiful small buildings stood tightly pushed together and looked rather small on the outside but probably had some charm on the inside to create more space.
" Psst, Danny? You're a metamorphmagus, right?"Charlie suddenly asked while we followed our dads.
" Yes I am. How could you know?"
" Your hair just turned red." he simply replied which made me blush in embarrisment.
Dad and I had discovered that if I didn't control my ability, my hair turned to a pinkish-red color when I was happy, a weird mix of orange and green when I felt sick, a bluish-purple shade when I became sad and that it turned white with strays of wine red when angry.
" Please don't tell anyone. I'm not registered by the ministry and I enjoy being able to change appearance without anyone being able to tell it's me." I told him and quickly changed my hair back to it's blonde color.
" Sure." he said and smiled.
Charlie was pretty tall for his age so when our fathers walked forward in an impossible tempo for my small legs, Charlie's brotherly instincts kicked in and he took my smaller hand in his so he wouldn't loose me in the crowd.
" I hate being short." I mumbled low enough so that no one would here me. Although we passed the pet shop and all of its owls in just that moment so I don't think anyone would have heard me even if I just said it normally." Welcome Danie, to Gringotts! The safest place in the world to keep something if you don't want it to be stolen." Dad then said and he and Mr. Weasley stepped aside to give me my first real look at the magnificent building.
The architect who designed this thing must have been a genius.
I bet my first husband would have loved meeting the brain behind it. Architecture was his job and passion in life. Sometimes I wasn't sure what he loved the most, me or his job." Wow! Who built this thing!?!"
" The creator was originally a goblin named Gringotts." Charlie answered and both males looked weirdly at him.
" What? Bill won't stop talking about this stupid place. Of course I'd remember something!!"
Ignoring whatever the fuck they were talking about, I walked up to the giant gate.
It had been so long since I last read the Harry Potter series that I couldn't remember much about this place, but I knew that it was at least two doors and a quote on Latin somewhere in the entrance. I was right. In big letters it stood ' Fortius Quo Fidelius' which I of course had no idea what it meant. In the back of my mind I made a mental note to consider learning Latin. After all, most spells -my dad had told me- was in Latin and the language had always had a connection to the wizard community.
The first thing to greet me as I entered, was the many desks where goblins sat and handled piles of gold. Their work tables were placed in such a manner that they formed a pathway towards a considerably ladder table by the end. The sealing was far above us and kept up by enormous marble columns.
We weren't alone in there, but it was barely anyone else there. I assumed it was because it wasn't rush hour and still considerably long until Hogwarts students were supposed to have bought all they needed for the school year.
With big steps, dad walked towards the desk by the very end. It didn't take long until it was our time and the grumpy gobbling in suit and a tie, that sat so tight around his neck it could no nothing but add to his bad move, turned to us.
" What can I help you with?" the goblin asked with a drawling voice.
" We'd like to extract money from the Weasley vault and Addington vault." Dad said and got a nod from Arthur in agreement.
" You got the keys?"
"Ah, yes." Mr. Weasley said and started search through his robes and dad took out a key that sat on a lace around his neck. It was small and nothing flashy with no unnecessary ornaments.
The goblin took them both and checked them as to see if they were false or not.
" Bryndwr!" he suddenly exclaimed and another goblin stepped forward.
" Take these four to the Weasley and Addington vaults to extract money."
" Yes sir. Follow me." the new goblin -apparently named Bryndwr- said before waving with one of his abnormally long hands for his height towards us.
Our little group hurried after him and I took father's hand.
" Why did you ask for the Addington vault instead for the Reed vault? It's named after our last names after all." I asked him as I looked up questioning at him.
" Addinton was my mother's - your grandmother's - maiden name. She was a pureblood witch while my father was muggleborn and originally from America. When they married each other, they took his last name which was Reed. Since grandpa didn't have a vault but mother did, they just used her family's vault." Dad explained and I nodded thoughtfully.
Cold and damp air hit me as the door to the underground rails opened. It was much colder in there than in the bright hall we had just exited but the thought of traveling down there on the roller coaster like wagon weighted up for it.
Bryndwr and I sat down in the front while Arthur, dad and Charlie sat cramped in the back." You, the little witch! You've done this before?"
" No, never. And my name is Danie Reed. Your name is Bryndwr, right?" I answered and for a second he looked surprised. I guess he wasn't expecting me to remember his name.
" ...Yes. Since you are new to this I'll advice you not to place any limbs outside the carriage during the ride unless you wish to loose that part of your body... And hold on tight." he said and I barely had time to thank him before we started going forwards in an incredible speed, much faster than any muggle transportation during this time.
My eyes filled with tears from the headwind alone. As we came further and further down I saw at least a thousand of stalagmites and stalactites on the cave walls.
I desperat looked for just a glimpse of fire anywhere in this enormous space as proof that the dragons was actually there even though I knew they were. Dragons, after all, were freakin' awesome and many times I had asked my dad to describe the different types of dragons that existed all over the world.
I wish I could have one...
An especially low hanging stalactite that had been broken so the wagon could pass under suddenly came in to view and both fathers had to duck to avoid any sort of damage.
Suddelny the carriage started to slow downed soon it had stoped entirely.
