Minghao

I did not even dare to breathe, while I was waiting for my mom to pass by us. The smallest movement would catch her attention and then she would see me and instantly know what I was about to do. No way would I be able to search for Mary and enjoy the world outside then. I would never get the chance to be free again.

And I did not even want to imagine what she would do to Jun. A trespasser, even worse he had spent the night in her daughter's chamber! She would probably kill him, for "soiling my honour" and name, even though nothing happened, and putting all those "horrible thoughts" in my head. Since I was sure that she would find a way to blame him for my escape as well, just how she did with Mary.

Jun did not move either. Except for the small puffs of breath that left his moth once a while and brushed my face, everything around us was still.

It felt like hours, but it could not have been more than a few seconds, when a small shock pushed through Juns body and came back to live.

"Come on, the gate is already closing again".

He took the suitcase out of my hands and replaced it with his right hand, holding my hand tightly. I looked at him in shock and tried to get out of his grip, but he gently pushed me through the gap in the wall before I could complain.

We had been wandering around the forest that surrounded the mansion for hours without talking or even stopping to breathe. First I was fascinated by all the trees and unknown plats that surrounded me. It was breath-taking how the sun shone through the crowns, some parts of the forest was dark like the night while others were illuminated in a warm gold. The air wall filled with the voices of hundreds of animals and whenever the wind blew through the branches I hoped one of them would spring out of the bush and show itself.

However, after the first few hours the excitement calmed down and was replaced with exhaustion. I was cold, tired and, since I haven't had anything to eat since morning, starving to death.

I did not dare to complain, since Junhui was probably my only chance to get to the next city. But when the sun was setting and the light inside the woods became less and less per minute, I could no longer get rid of the feeling that we were lost.

"Jun. I don't want to complain, but are you sure you know the way?"

Finally he stopped and turned around, "I know the way".

I could not have looked very convinced, because he added.

"Maybe we should stay here for tonight, we will only get more lost in the dark".

I bit my tongue to stop myself from pointing out that he just admitted to being lost. I was too tired and hungry to care much. I sat down on the ground with a long sight and contemplated whether it was save to just fall back and just sleep on the bare ground. A second glance and I decided that sleep was more important than staying clean.

"I will go and get some firewood, it can get pretty cold at night. And the flames will keep most of the predators away".

The image of hungry wolfs and bears that were only waiting to eat me, tore me out of my slumber. "Don't go! Don't leave me alone. What if a bear finds me! I don't know how to fight a bear!"

"Don't fight them, if you don't move they will ignore you. Wolfs however, they are another problem".

"What!? What am I supposed to do when I meet a wolf?"

Jun only grinned and turned around to go deeper into the woods.

"Wait! I said don't leave me alone", I jumped up and ran to him, holding onto his arm.

If I would have been less scared and drained, I probably would have noticed the happy smile he unsuccessfully tried to suppress. But right now, my eyes were busy scanning the forest for anything possibly dangerous.

Jun picked up a couple of try branches and when we came back to the bags he placed everything down and started to make a fire. It took a bit longer than I had expected, but when the warmth of the flames started to fill my body, I relaxed and slowly drifted off to sleep.
