Amelia reluctantly left the hospital after another hour. She wanted to stay with Will and Issac, but knew that she had to get home, since she'd already be in enough trouble with her dad and step-mum for staying out way past her curfew. It was 1 AM, and she was supposed to have been home by 11. Amelia checked her phone for the first time since calling the ambulance, and saw that she had 52 missed calls from her dad, and he had left some voice-mails expressing how angry he was. Am sighed as she grabbed Hannah's hand, crossing the road with her as they walked to get the train home. Ben wanted to come with them, but Emily had insisted that he stayed with her at the hospital, where she knew they were all safe.
Both girls were silent the whole two train journey's home. It was like Hannah knew that Am had nothing positive to say to her, and she respected her enough not to push something out of her. When they both eventually got home, Amelia saw that both her dad and her step-mum were waiting for her in the living room. "Hannah, go up to bed. I'll be up to say goodnight in a bit, ok?" she said, taking the girls coat off before gently pushing her in the direction of the stairs. Hannah, who knew what Amelia was about to face, wordlessly walked up the stairs.
Amelia walked into the living room, and stopped in front of her dad and step-mum, who both took their time to look up from the books they were reading before facing Amelia. "Oh, Hello Amelia. I didn't realise that you were home." Grace said, smiling at her dangerously before taking another sip of the wine that she was holding. Am thought the urge to roll her eyes at her step-mum, and stared her in the face, thinking carefully about how to reply. "Yes, I'm sorry that I missed curfew. There was an accident at the concert, involving Issac and Will. I was at the hospital with them." She explained, watching her father survey her face with his cold blue eyes. he put down the book he was reading as he lowered his glasses. "Amelia, you know full well what i think of that Hearte family. Is that who you really want to be spending your time with? i don't want you seeing those boys anymore. do you understand me?" her father said, standing up and stepping closer to Amelia. "Dad, with all due respect, you know nothing about Will. Or Issac, or any of that family. They are my best friends. I'm sorry, I know that you want me to be this perfect little girl with nice friends and good grades, but, that's not me. I'm in love with Will. i don't care what you think, nothing you can say or do will change the way i feel about him." Amelia said, raising her voice slightly. Grace and her father stood shocked, not used to Amelia answering back to them.
"Do you see what we mean, Amelia? you never answered us back before you met those insufferable children. They've corrupted you into this, this, disrespectful girl!" Grace exclaimed, standing up and resting a hand on Amelia's shoulder. Am shoved her hand off, laughing in exasperation. "No. they haven't corrupted me at all. All they've done is taught me to be myself, and always speak my mind, rather than filtering everything I say and do" Amelia said, taking a step back from them as they both stood looking disgusted. "No. I refuse to let you behave like this. You are turning into a little madam, Amelia. if this behaviour continues then we will have no choice but to send you to boarding school." Grace said, making Amelia panic at the thought of having to leave Hannah behind with the two of them. she'd never admitted it to them, but Hannah was scared of her mum and step-dad.
"No way. there's no way that you are sending me to a boarding school. I'm not leaving Hannah, you psychotic bitch" she calmly explained, not wanting Hannah to hear. she knew that her little sister would be sitting on the top step, waiting to come running down the stairs if her mum got too angry. "Don't you dare bring my daughter into this, you wretched girl. You are going to boarding school and that's final. you will leave next month since term has already started." Grace explained before going to leave the room. "You know what? fuck you. BOTH of you. I'd rather be in boarding school than live with two people who don't think I meet their perfect expectations." she said, before going to walk out the house. Grace grabbed her arm and yanked Amelia back around to face her. "If you leave, I will make sure that you never see Hannah ever again. It's not like she'd miss you much anyway" her step-mum shouted, making Amelia step closer to the door, before replying with what she had always wanted to say to her. "Hannah's the only reason that I still live here. I'm the only reason she's happy, so I think she will miss me since she's petrified of the two of you. I don't blame her." Amelia retorted. Grace, slapping her across the face with such force that she fell to the floor.
Amelia pulled herself up from the wooden floor, before grabbing her bag and turning towards the door. she ignored Hannah's protests as she ran down the stairs in an attempt to stop Amelia. Hannah had to be held back by her mum as Amelia took one last look at the group of people in the hallway. "I'm sorry." she said to her little sister before opening the front door and stepping out into the dark night, blocking out Hannah's crying by putting her headphones on. She closed the front door and set off down the road, back in the direction of the train station.
