We walk along the street, passing by walkers and whatever else is out there. Enid suddenly stops and says, "Oh, wait. I forgot to give this to you. I found it while me and my Dad were hunting one time. I thought it would look nice on you."
She hands me a watch. It's only a wrist watch, but a watch nonetheless. I put it on the instant I get it I smile. "Nobody really knows the time right now, but judging by the sun it's about four' o clock." She says.
I don't know how she knows that, but it's quite impressive. It's weird. Cause we've been traveling for like two days, yet I feel like I've known her forever. I feel like she is my daughter. I know it's weird, yet I can't help feeling that way.
"It looks nice. Thank you." I say. She smiles and says, "I'm glad you like it." Then she starts walking along and I follow her. We head forward and make it to this long building. We head inside, knives at the ready. It's completely empty, except for a few advertising posters.
"Let's stay in here for the night and then we can head out tomorrow. Sound like a plan?" I say. "It's as good a plan as any." Enid says.
I start a fire and Enid lays on the other side of the fire. When it's burning well, I cook dinner and we eat. Then we say good night and go to sleep. When I wake up the next morning, she is snuggled right next to me. I don't move, I just lay there.
She finally wakes up and instantly gets embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. Oh my god. This is so embarrassing! Why do I do stuff like-" I interupt, "It's okay. Whatever you like is fine. It is alright."
She blushes, then she smiles and says, "Okay." We get up and start to stretch. I finish stretching, then I walk over to the door and knock to see if there are any walkers out there. There aren't any, so we head out. We walk towards a small farm and a field for no reason.
When we arrive, we head towards the side of the barn and look through the cracks to see if there is anything there. There, of course, isn't anything but some crates.
We go inside the barn and check the crates. They have canned food and guns with ammo. "Somebody's been here before, we should be careful." says Enid. "Yeah. I agree." I say.
We grab guns and sit there, eating canned beans and waiting for something to happen. No one is around at all. Not even walkers. Which is quite strange.
Then we hear it. A gunshot from far away. We jump up and head in the direction it came from. Running through a forest, we can hear the guns being fired, and they sound close.
We stop to look down at a group of people shooting at some walkers. They seem like they aren't exactly used to using guns.
We run down the side of the hill/cliff and get out our guns. We kill all the walkers from a safe distance away from the other people. Then we head towards them, covered in dirt from running around in the dust.
"Hello. Thank you for helping us. We aren't very used to guns." says a man who kind of looks like my father, except for his beard, height, and the fact that he seems a bit older.
"No problem, sir." says Enid. I look around at all their faces. There are only twelve. I turn to face the man who spoke first. "You don't seem like you go out often. Do you have a camp, or something like that? That's the only real way to get by without guns."
"Well, we do have a camp. At least we did, but we were sent out to explore and we got lost," says the man in front.
We stand there, silent. The only sound around us being the sound of the wind through the trees. "Okay, you can come with us. We have food and guns. Also ammo and medical supplies. It appears your man in the back has a wound." I say
The man speaks up, "I got shot by another group we passed by. They didn't like us." Three men from the group get off the ground and line up. They look like they are soldiers. Except for the fact that they are all dressed in white shirts and jeans. "Oh, them! I forgot to tell you! Those are our escorts. They will be leaving soon, for they said yesterday that they'd be leaving," says the man in the front. The men leave, without speaking a word.
I speak up, "You guys sure are an odd group. Escorts? Who the hell can afford escorts? You gotta a lot of learning to do, cause it seems like you've got into shit you know nothing about." The man in front nods.
"Alrighty then. Let's head to the camp, and properly introduce ourselves," says Enid. We all nod and head back to camp.
As we're walking back, I hear a gun click. I turn around rapidly, as I was in the front. A man has a gun to Enid's head, and another has a gun on me. "Look, we'd love to chit chat and have dinner, but we have to go. I'll be taking her with me. She'll make a nice wife for Pete. Then we'll take all your stuff and let you go on your merry way," says the man in front.
"Let go of her, or I'll shoot." I say. "Nope. I'm afraid I can't do that. Lower your gun, and you'll get off the hook," says the front man. I don't move. I stand there, holding the gun, aiming for his head.
"Fine. Go the hard way." As he says this, a sharp pain hits the back of my head and all I see is black. The sounds of Enid crying and begging for mercy fill my head and haunt me, as I fall into a deep sleep.
I wake up a few hours later. My head throbs and all I have on me is my knife. I find a letter next to my feet. It reads: Do not ever disobey The New God. He is our true Lord and Savior. He has been reborn and given the name Peter. He will take what he wants. He is the holy and the hellish. He is the earth and the sky. He is life and death. He is your Lord! - Peter, The New Lord.
They took Enid. I will find them. And I will tear them apart.
