Walking in we saw Sam lying down on Danny's lap as Cole was flipping through a magazine. He looked up at me with a wry smile. "Don't you look like the tiger that ate the zebra?"

"Um its cat that ate the canary, in no way would a zebra and tiger ever meet unless it's at a zoo and I'm sure they would have different cages for liability reasons."

Cole stood up and sauntered his way to me stepping around me like I was prey. "Change the subject all you want my dear. When are we going hunting?"

Outside the world was just about to fade. Every day it got darker earlier. "Two hours. I want to go into town though." So far I've kept searches in the woods. I wanted to see how the town looked after dark. There was an unspoken curfew since the attacks. I wanted to see if anyone else dared to face the evil or if I was missing something. Since Jackson's aunt died I wondered who the new host may be if she was possessed. Since the towns people all but ran from me every time they saw me I couldn't really ask them to see.

After convincing Jax to stay behind which he was in no way happy about Cole and I drove into town. The street lights flickered between off and just barely lit.

"So you and Rory huh? Friends with no benefits?" I had made up my mind about what I was going to do with Rory I just didn't want Cole to know yet. Just in case something went wrong.

"Yeah she's really awesome. I've never met anyone like her."

"Well she's a mermaid so-."

"No it's not smart ass! It's weird because even though she's been here she's not weighed down with the same worries and stresses that other people are. She's completely secure in who she is. Not worried about how her hair looks or what anyone's opinions of her would be. She just is. I don't know it sounds stupid.

"No its not." I smile easing Rhysand into town across from the diner. A flicker up ahead caught my eye. "Do you see that?" There was a spark of light ahead in the distance that seemed to be blinking closer. "Cole out of the car now!"

I opened Damon's doors and rolled onto the pavement just as the beam hit my car engulfing it with flames. My ears adjusted to hear as the explosion shattered my ear drums.

They couldn't take much more of this shit.

I looked frantically around to see where the source of the power came from. "Cole!" I screamed. "Cole!"

"Here" whispered a weak voice." I crawled to him. He lay in a puddle of blood a piece of metal lodged in his side, I thanked Zeus it wasn't his heart.

I splayed my fingers gently on his side. He panted grimacing in pain. "Cole I need to take it out, you won't heal if I don't"

He shook his head vigorously in protest. "No."

"Cole I have to, what are you going to do walk around with a chunk of metal in your side. Don't be a sissy." I grabbed his face with my hands. "Deep breaths and talk about Rory what do you guys talk about?"

With heavy pants he began. "We talk about our homes, where we came from. I told her about Brianna, she told me about her home world that makes Jurassic Park seem like an amusement park."

"Isn't it?" He glares at me. "I just mean isn't that the whole premise of Jurassic Park that it's a...park?"

"Not helping." I apologize deciding the best way to yank this out. Fast and furious it is. "She's beautiful and kind. Loathes the violence that precedes her kinds nature. Her parents sent her and her sister to earth a few hundred years when war broke out. She misses them and her sister desperately." It touched me how close they were. I'd tried getting Rory to open up about her sister but she changed the subject each time.
