“Give me a reason not to be angered!” She shouted, standing up from her throne. “One reason!”

“Queen Altariel,” the small fairy spluttered, fluttering in front of her. “I do not wish to anger you. I am only the messenger your guards sent.”

“They let him get away!” She yelled, ripping the gold crown from her dark red hair and tossing it on the ground. It clattered away as she snatched the fairy from midair.

“You’re...squeezing...too hard...” The fairy coughed. He struggled in her grasp but it was no use. She tossed the limp creature aside and slumped into her throne.

“I only asked they bring me Zanian,” she scowled. “Nothing more! Yet, they let him escape. I’ll have their souls. It seems I need to send more competent people out to complete my task. Narkial!”

A human like form rose from the floor. It looked like it was dripping black slime that disappeared into the shadows. It’s head seemed to roll on his shoulders before it spoke in a deep, raspy voice.

“Yes, my master?” It questioned, “Why do you summon me from the shadows?”

“I need you to summon the Scretal,” Altariel ordered. “Tell them to retrieve Zanian alive.”

“Are you sure you wish to summon them?” The shadow checked.

“It seems they’re the only ones who can complete this simple task,” she assured. “Retrieve them and tell them to bring back the boy, or they shall suffer.”

“As you command,” the shadow bowed as it sank away into the shadows.

“I will win,” she whispered, her black lips curling into a devious smile. “Lorradin will be mine to rule forever.”
