"H-Hey Alex," Jack said over the phone. "Can you come and get Libbie? I'm sorry it's so early in the morning."
"Yeah, why?" I asked, already running to the closet and grabbing my sweatshirt.
"I'm not feeling too well and I've thrown up a few times. I'm pretty sure it's the flu and I don't want her to get sick," he said.
"Oh, yeah. That's fine. I'll be there in a little bit," I said.
"Thanks and sorry about this," he said.
"Jack, it's ok," I said. "I'll be there soon."
I hung up, then walked outside and got into the vehicle. I drove a good fifteen minutes to Jack's place. Once I got there, I walked inside and went up to the fourth floor. I found Jack's apartment and knocked. A few seconds later, Jack opened the door and ushered me inside. I stepped in and closed the door behind me. Jack was cleaning things up and he honestly didn't look very well. He was still in his jogging pants, a t-shirt, a baggy sweatshirt, and his slippers. He looked pretty tired and exhausted.
"Sorry for the short notice again," he apologized.
"It's really ok," I chuckled.
"Libbie! Alex is here, hun!" Jack yelled down the hallway.
"Daddy!" Libbie said as she ran down the hallway and into my arms.
"Hey baby girl!" I said as I hugged her.
"You have everything ready?" Jack asked her.
"Yeah, it's in my room!" she said.
"Why don't you go show Alex your room?" Jack suggested.
"Come on, daddy!" Libbie pleaded as she grabbed my hand.
I laughed as she ran down the hall, me still in hand. She did a sharp turn into a room, which made me slip, then she stopped. I looked around and her room was actually a pretty good size. I assumed Jack let he decorate her room, which made me smile. It was pink with purple polka dots everywhere, her twin size bed had princess blankets and sheets all over it, a few stuffed animals here and there, then there were princess toys and other things scattered around the room. Overall, it basically screamed Libbie.
"Do you like it, daddy?" she asked as she looked up at me.
"It's beautiful like you, sweetheart," I said.
"Daddy let me do it," she said.
"I thought so," I said as I laughed.
Just as I finished my sentence ad began to laugh, Jack ran past the doorway and into the bathroom. I feel kind of bad now. Hopefully the flu won't last too long.
"So, you can grab your things and we can head on out," I said as I smiled.
"Alright!" she said as she ran to her bed and grabbed her bag and teddy bear.
I told her to make sure she had everything, then I walked down the hallway and back into the living room. I started picking up what Jack hadn't gotten, then put them away. It's the least I could do. Shortly after that, Libbie came running down the hall followed by Jack seconds after that. He told me thank you, then sorry again. Libbie and I said goodbye and then left.
I took her hand as we walked down the hallway and into the elevator. We got to the ground floor, then I took her hand again as we walked to the vehicle. I lifted her up and put her in the backseat, then I got into the drivers side.
Once we arrived home, I got Libbie out of the backseat and she instantly ran to the house. I laughed as I ran after her and unlocked the door. She ran inside and directly into the couch.
"Have an idea?" I laughed.
"Can we watch a movie?" she asked, flashing the puppy dog eyes.
"How can I say no to that face?" I asked as I put my sweatshirt in the closet.
"Yay!" she said.
"What movie were you thinking?" I asked.
"Tangled!" she said as she smiled.
"Of course," I chuckled.
She always picks that movie. It's her favorite, by far. It's actually not too bad, I will admit. I walked over to the entertainment center and opened the cupboard. I knew exactly where the movie was, so I grabbed it and put it in.
"Popcorn and soda?" I asked.
"Wouldn't be right without it," she smirked.
I laughed, the walked into the kitchen as she got herself comfortable on the couch. I started popping two bags of popcorn, the while the first one was going, I went to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of Sprite. I poured her and I each a cup, putting a cover on hers because she's notorious for spilling soda, then I put the soda back and took the first bag of popcorn out. I put the second bag in, then poured the first one in a big bowl. I did that again after the second one was done. I brought the bowl out to Libbie and she smiled and took it from me. I walked back into the kitchen and grabbed our cups of soda. I have her hers, the hit play on the movie.
Literally about three quarters of the way into the movie, she was sleeping, even though it was only around nine thirty in the morning. I chuckled, then slowly and quietly got up. I walked into the office at the other end of the house, then grabbed my phone out of my pocket.
"Hello?" Jack answered.
"Hey, just wondering how you were feeling," I said.
"Oh, um, it's just the flu. I'm feeling a little better. I just got back from the doctors actually," he said.
"Oh, well that's good. I'm glad you're feeling better. Hope it gets all better soon though," I said.
"T-Thanks," he said.
"Are you sure you're ok?" I asked, noticing he wasn't himself.
"Yeah," he said. "I, uhh, I gotta go. I'm gonna go shower. Thanks for checking up on me, Alex."
"Alright, no problem. Talk to you soon. Bye!" I said.
"Bye," he said.
