......................
I pulled my hair up into a tight bun in order to keep it from sticking to my neck. Then I grabbed my pencil from the desk and twiddled with it between my thumb and index finger.
I had dedicated the entire day to editing my chapters, and I'd actually made an appreciable dent in the emails that were piling up from Chloe and April.
Feeling proud of myself a small smirk crossed my face. It had been a while since I had gotten enough editing done that I could slack off for a couple of days. I was completely caught up. Something that hadn't happened to me since I'd started the process of editing and publishing.
I grabbed a piece of paper from next to me and pulled myself closer to the desk.
Things that need to get done:
Laundry
Pick up dry cleaning
GroceriesI couldn't help but stare at the practically empty page. It was only noon, and I knew this was all that I had to do. I kept wondering to myself why I'd decided to finish all those chapters when I knew I'd have more Free time down the road when Ashton leaves, again.
I pried myself away from the office chair and slipped the paper in my back pocket. While walking to the kitchen to grab a water I came across my keys on the counter, and I thought to myself. Why not just get it over with.
On my way out the door I called Ashton. "Hey, when are you planning on being at my place tonight?"
"Well I was on my way now, I meant to be back earlier than this babe, but Luke and I decided on lunch." He answered. I could hear traffic passing through the phone.
"Well I was just going to go to the store real quick and grab some groceries and the dry cleaning if that's okay?"
"Actually, I was thinking of stopping at the store myself. Why don't you just let me grab some things?"
"Ummm" I turned around and started heading back for my front door, "I guess that's fine"
"Anything specific in mind that you need"
"I don't know. A few small things to get us through the week. After you leave I'll go grocery shopping again." I shrugged my shoulders. "I'd grab like a pack of ramen and stuff to make tacos. That'll get us by easily"
He chuckled, "You know I'm gonna get way more than that right"
"...........sadly, yes" I closed the door behind me and set my keys on the side table.
He laughed again, "What have you been doing all day?"
"A lot of editing, but I think I've finally caught up. That should leave me.....mmm, 12 hours."
"It doesn't help that they both have different time zones, so they don't align with your daylight schedule." There was some shuffling as he switched the phone from one ear to the other, and I then heard the soft clicking of his blinkers flashing. "Hey listen, I've got to go. I'll be home in less than an hour.....till then why don't you take a nap. You sound horrible"
"Yeah, well, this flu doesn't want to let"
"Alright Lay, I'll see you later. I love you."
"Love you too.....bye" I hung up the phone and placed it next to my keys. I looked over at my bedroom door and wondered to myself whether or not I wanted to listen to Ashton and take a nap. I didn't have much of an excuse as to why I shouldn't, but I felt this sudden need to do something.
