I hear my phone ring from the kitchen, so I set down my laptop and stand up from my bed, following the noise. I snatch the phone from the shiny counter and stare at the caller ID. Unknown. Well, I guess it's worth a shot.

"Hello?" I answer awkwardly, looking confusedly at my refrigerator, which obviously doesn't look back at me.

"Uh, hi. Is this Lyrick?" I know that voice. John.

"Hi, John." I say, rolling my eyes a little.

Remember when he asked me on that date? Yeah. Remember when he said he would call? Yeah.

That was 2 weeks ago.

"Hey, I'm sorry it took so long for me to call..." I hear his breathing over the phone line. "I really am sorry. I got really nervous and I don't know and now I'm rambling again and I'm just really sorry." His apology lingers in my ears.

"It's fine, don't worry about it." I reply softly, not sure if I can really find my voice.

"So, if you don't think I'm a total douche bag," He emphasizes the word 'total.' "Would you still consider that date?"

I bite my lip. I don't know, I almost considered calling it off 2 weeks ago, and that was before he forgot about me for 2 weeks? Fuck it.

"I'd love to." I say, more breathy than intended. "Wow, that sounded weirdly sexual. Sorry," I give a nervous laugh and hear his adorable chuckle.

"No worries," He says, and I can almost hear the smile in his voice. "So, how about tomorrow night, around 6:30?" He asks.

"Sounds good to me." I reply, rubbing my arm.

"Should I pick you up from your apartment or meet you somewhere?"

"Wait, how do you know I live in an apartment?"

"You told me when I was giving you directions," He replies with a laugh. "It's not like I know which apartment you're in, I just know the building." I laugh nervously again.

"Right. Sorry. I don't know. Uh, just pick me up outside the building, I'll be there." I smile a little bit, even though he can't see me.

"Alright, see you then, Lyrick with a k," He says, using the nickname he used at the coffee shop. I giggle a bit. "And again, I'm sorry I took so long."

"Don't worry about it!" I say, laughing. "It's fine. See you later, John with  j."

And the line goes dead.
