I sit patiently at my kitchen table, glancing at the time every few seconds, knowing it probably hasn't changed but worrying about it anyways. I've been ready for probably an hour or 2, and I've just been sitting. Waiting. It's already 5:45 and I can feel my heart already creeping up into my throat from the anticipation.
Will he be early? Do I look okay? Do I need to change my outfit for the 4th time or is this one finally the right one?
My head swirls with one question after the next, constantly worrying about what John will think about me when that door swings open in 15 minutes. As the minutes tick, I almost panic and cancel the whole thing. But, how stupid would that be? He's already either here or on his way, I have no explanation, and no actual reason other than the fact that I'm hopelessly nervous.
At 6:00 sharp, I hear my doorbell ring. He's punctual at least, gotta give him that much. I take a deep breath and walk to the door, shutting my eyes tightly as I grip the doorknob. I twist it and pull the door open with ease, planting a smile on my face even though the sun is now shining in my eyes.
"Hey, John." I say, barely above a whisper. I see him grin through my squinted eyes.
"Hey, Lyrick. I meant to be here a little bit early but traffic wasn't exactly on my side," He gives a sheepish grin before continuing. "Anyways, you ready to get this show on the road?"
"More ready than you've ever even experienced, O'Callaghan." I mentally flick myself for saying that out loud, but he seems to think it was funny and chuckles anyways.
"Alright, well lets get to it then!"
I grab my keys from the side table and step outside to lock my door. As I turn around, I see him giving me a sideways glance to make sure I was finished before starting the walk to his truck.
"So, what have you been up to today?" I ask, trying my hardest to not be so fucking awkward, even though I know I probably am.
"Not a whole lot really," He admits, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I was working on some songs but for some reason none of them are really coming out right. Hopefully this block I'm having goes away after a night of fun, right?" I smile and give my head a nod.
"I'm not sure how good I am at any of this stuff, but if you want any help, I'd be happy to lend an ear." I say, smiling softly.
"I'll keep that in mind," He grins. " I might just take you up on that offer."
He opens the door for me and I hop in, my small frame struggling a little bit because its so high off of the ground. He chuckles, lending me a hand with a smile before shutting the door for me as well.
"Lets go have some fun now, shall we?" He starts up the truck and we ride away, off for a night of pizza and probably some mischief.
