Kathryn Benson had been at Camp Half-Blood for about a year before she had met Luke Castellan. Luke, being the amazing, jack-of-all-trades son of Hermes, had always seemed way out of her league. Not that she was into him or anything. Oh no, Kathryn was not into Luke. Not. At. All. And yet—he was kind of cute and his skill in the annual capture the flag game was unmatchable. Anyways, her point was that she never would have thought he'd have noticed her, much less talk to her. Well, until an idiot accidentally hit him with a steel-tipped arrow during an archery lesson, of course.

Kathryn was in the healing cabin, being a daughter of Apollo, when they wheeled Luke in. He was pale and it was apparent that he had lost a lot of blood, maybe a little less than a pint. A wicked steel-tipped arrow stuck out of the flesh of his thigh. Kathryn grimaced at the sight and quickly slipped on some rubber gloves, after disinfecting her hands of course. She took one look at the wound and muttered, "That looks bad—"

"I—uh—shot him with an arrow," a young boy stammered. A son of Aphrodite, she guessed, taking in the golden curls and blue eyes.

"Yeah, I can see that," she retorted tersely. "Hey, Solace!"

Her blonde half-brother stepped into the room, quickly assessing the situation.

"Can you grab some gauze, a knife, and my suturing set?"

Will nodded and quickly ran out to find everything she had requested. The Aphrodite boy turned pale, almost as pale as Luke, as he asked, "What are you going to do?"

Kathryn broke the arrow shaft, causing Luke to moan with discomfort, and replied, "I am going to dig out the arrowhead, disinfect the wound, and stitch the skin back together."

The Aphrodite boy turned a bit green at that and quickly turned away.

"Look, kid, if you can't handle blood and guts, you'd better disappear, 'cuz this is gonna get ugly real fast," she warned him. The boy nodded his head and was out of there before Will had returned. "Don't worry, Luke, I'll have you stitched up in no time," she whispered. Luke just groaned and shifted. Kathryn bit the inside of her cheek and looked anxiously up at the door, waiting for Will to arrive.

Once Will returned with all of Kathryn's materials, she got to work on Luke's leg. A couple hours later, she sat back with a sigh, wiping sweat from her brow.

"He'll be just fine," she remarked. Will merely grunted, before laying his head down on his arm and snoozing. Kathryn smiled at her half-brother then returned her gaze to Luke's slumbering form. To her surprise, his eyelids fluttered open and he gave her a half-smile.

"Thanks," he murmured.

"No problem," she replied, her heart fluttering a bit.

"I won't forget this." With that, his eyes closed and his chest rose and fell with the familiar pattern of sleep.
