LIZZY SAT on top of a grave, waiting for the vampire to rise from its coffin. Buffy was off patrolling somewhere else while Elizabeth was stuck on graveyard duty. "C'mon, Stephan, rise and shine. Some of us have a ton of trig homework waiting." Lizzy sighed as she played with her nails,
"Hey."
Lizzy let out a small scream and turned to see Angel, "Is this a bad time?"
"Are you crazy?" The blonde hissed at him, "You don't just sneak up on people in a graveyard. You make noise when you walk. You stomp or... yodel." She huffed,
"I heard you were on the hunt." Angel replied,
"I'm supposed to be, but... lazy bones here doesn't wanna come out and play." Lizzy responded, tapping the gravestone,
"When you first wake up it's a little disorienting. He'll show." Angel said and her heart dropped a little bit,
"It's weird to think of you going through that."
"It's weird to go through. So, uh, you're here alone?" He asked,
"Yeah, well, Buffy is patrolling on the other side of town. Why?" Elizabeth replied,
"I just thought you'd have somebody with you." He said,
"Why? Because I'm not the slayer, just some little human girl who can't protect herself?" She accused, crossing her arms over her chest.
"That's not what I meant, Liz." Angel replied,
"Then what did you mean?" She asked, glaring at him,
"I just meant that if something happened, there would be no one around to help you." He explained and Lizzy raised an eyebrow,
"So you think I'm some damsel in distress waiting to happen?"
"Elizabeth-"
"Don't Elizabeth me!" She exclaimed, taking a step back, "Just because I'm not as strong as the Slayer or a vampire doesn't mean I can't handle myself!"
"See? Whenever we fight you always bring up the vampire thing." Angel replied,
"Well, I didn't come here to fight." She responded. Lizzy was pushed into Angel from behind and she turned to see the vampire that she was waiting for had risen,
"Oh, wait, I did." Stephan threw a few punches which Elizabeth easily blocked. She punched him in the face several times and kicked him in the jaw, sending him stumbling into a large gravestone. Lizzy patted her pockets before looking around frantically, "Where's my stake? I-I know I had a stake!"
"I didn't see a stake!" Angel replied,
The vampire grabbed a shovel that was lying on the other gravestone and came at us again. Angel attacked, but Stephan brought the shovel up and hit him in the face, knocking Angel onto his back.
Lizzy jumped over the shovel when Stephan swung it at her legs. He swung it at her again, but Elizabeth caught it before hitting him again and breaking the handle. She jammed the broken handle into his chest. He fell over and burst into ashes as he hit the ground.
"Whose the damsel in distress now?" She snapped at Angel,
"Look, obviously I made a mistake coming here tonight." He said before turning around and began to walk away.
"Oh, no you don't. You can't just turn and walk away from me like that." Lizzy growled before she started to follow him, "It takes more than that to get rid of me."
The blonde screamed as she fell into an open grave with an open and empty coffin inside. Angel came over and bent down to look, "You okay, damsel?" He smirked,
"I'm fine." Lizzy replied, glaring and sitting up, "Gee, I wish people wouldn't leave open graves laying around like this."
"So. Another vampire has risen tonight." Angel stated,
The blonde poked her head out of the grave and looked around the grave, "I don't think so. Look at those tracks." She said, pointing out the indents in the grass, "Whoever was buried here didn't rise from this grave." Lizzy climbed out of the grave with the help of Angel and she found a dirty white heel, "She was dragged from it."
THE NEXT morning Elizabeth walked into the library and Giles, Buffy, and Xander stared at her, "What?"
Giles cleared his throat, "So, um, how did things go last night? Did Mr. Korshak show up on schedule?"
"More or less. Angel and I took care of him." Lizzy answered, "There's something else, though. We found an empty grave."
"Another vampire?" Buffy asked,
"No. No, this one was dug up and the body was taken out." She replied,
"Grave robbing? That's new. Interesting." Giles responded,
"I know you meant to say gross and disturbing." Lizzy stated,
"Yes, yes, yes of course. Uh, terrible thing. Must, must put a stop to it." Giles corrected with no enthusiasm.
"So. Why does someone want to dig up graves?" Xander asked,
"Well, I'll, uh, collect some theories. Uh, it would help if we knew who the body belonged to." Giles responded
"Meredith Todd. Ring a bell?" Lizzy asked,
"No."
"She died recently. She was our age." She stated,
"Drawin' a blank." Xander replied,
"Why don't we ask Willow to, uh, fire this thing up and, uh, track Meredith down?" Giles suggested, indicating the PC.
"Sounds like a plan, Stan." Lizzy replied before leaving the library to find Willow.
