“Bye guys!” Alexadrine waved as the airport taxi drove off.
“Okay in the house. I have to explain the basic rules of magic.” Jacob said when the taxi disappeared down the street. Alexadrine and Jacob walked in their house as the four boys were driven to the airport. The closer they got to the airport, the more Prodigy coughed and hacked. After passing security, the boys sat at the gate impatiently waiting for their flight to be called.
“Man is it just me or are you guys tired of airports?” Princeton asked sitting restlessly in the chair.
“No I’m getting tired of them too.” Prodigy said reducing his coughing by filling his mind with Alexadrine. His lips tingle when he remembered the times they shared kisses. He sat up touching his lips looking confused.
“What’s wrong Prod?” Roc asked noticing Prodigy.
“Nothing.” Prodigy shook his head in response sitting back in the chair.
“Flight 4228 to Stockton California is now boarding.” A man announced over the intercom. The boys sighed as they stood up and advanced to the plane.
“Please tell me we aren’t taking any more planes during this tour.” Princeton said when he saw Keisha, Kenneth, and Walter outside the airport three hours after their flight took off.
“You may not have to.” Walter grabbed a bag and put it in the trunk.
“That’s good.” Prodigy said between coughs.
“Prod are you sick?” Keisha put her hand on his forehead.
“I really don’t know. I’ve been coughing since Friday.” Prodigy replied.
“So you’ve been coughing for four days?” Kenneth asked.
“Yeah and sometimes it hurts.” Everyone got in the van.
“Like how?”
“To the point where I lose my breath and the pain holds my body. It just hurts everywhere.” Prodigy explained.
“Oh do you think you can practice?” Kenneth asked as Walter started driving to the Bob Hope Theatre.
“Yeah I’ll be fine.” Prodigy nodded. ‘As long as I think about Alex even though I don’t want to.’ He thought to himself. When they got to the theatre Jacob Latimore was on his last song Like ‘Em All featuring Diggy. While Diggy and the OMGirlz performed, the boys got ready to practice their past. Once they finished Prodigy, Roc, Princeton, and Ray took their places on the stage. They sung All Around the World and I’m Falling. But while performing Brightside they had to stop to rush Prodigy to the hospital.
A tall doctor was seen walking in before he introduced himself. “Hello sir. I’m Dr. Maverick.” He paused seeing Prodigy on the gurney. “What the reasoning for your appearance today?” he asked Prodigy.
“Well he did a back flip while practicing for a performance. When he came back down he hit the ground and screamed. We tried to get him to stand but he was in too much pain.” Walter explained.
“What kind of pain is it?” Dr. Maverick asked Prodigy while looking at him.
“It’s like a burning pain and numbness at the same time.” Prodigy answered and Dr. Maverick nodded.
“Okay well first we’ll run you through x-ray to check for any broken bones due to the back flip.” Dr. Maverick told them before walking out.
“I’ll go call your mom.” Walter spoke.
“No not yet. Not until we find out what’s wrong.” Prodigy stopped him. “She’s gonna worry too much.”
“Well yeah you’re hurt Prod.” Walter responded.
“I know but don’t tell her anything yet. At least not until we find out if I broke anything or not.” Prodigy explained as an x-ray technician walked in and rolled Prodigy out in a wheelchair. After having his legs x-rayed Prodigy laid nervously waiting to hear the results. He heard the door open and he looked up to see Walter and Dr. Maverick walk in.
“I have the results.” Dr. Maverick stood in front of the hospital bed that Prodigy was in. “Luckily you didn’t break any bones. But you have an unfamiliar form of sciatica.” he explained.
“What is that?” Walter questioned confused.
“It’s a burning pain in the buttocks and legs due to a damage spinal cord.” Dr. Maverick explained.
“How is my form unfamiliar?” Prodigy asked.
“Well from the looks of it, the back flip had nothing to do with having or getting sciatica. The reason behind sciatica happening is usually because of something called spinal stenosis, a tightening of a spinal cord. Which in this case you don’t have. And sciatica doesn’t start so sudden or in full effect, like yours did. Normally the pain would start and then burning, and as time goes on the pain increases as well as the burning.” Dr. Maverick explained in full detail.
“Is there anything you can do?” Walter inquired worried.
“Well surgery would be an option, but like I said before since your form is so unique, it wouldn’t be the right option for you. Although there are some other treatments we can try.” Dr. Maverick responded.
“Well why are you still standing here? I’ve got a tour to go on. Start them now!” Prodigy yelled getting aggravated.
“Okay I’ll send in a nurse to start the first treatment.” Walter followed Dr. Maverick out, leaving Prodigy alone to wait for the nurse.
