You woke up to the sun shining on your face. There was very little feeling in your foot. You panicked in fear of the doctors having to amputate. You grabbed the blanket and ripped it off as you pushed yourself up on your elbows. Much to your relief, your foot was only wrapped in bandages.
"Jesus christ [y/n]! You scared me!" you turned your head to see Armin staring at you.
"Armin? What are you doing here? You didn't get hurt too, did you?" panic was heard in your voice.
"No, I'm okay. Sorry, I'll let you get back to sleep." Armin sat up to get out of the bed that the two of you shared that night.
"Wait." you grabbed his arm. Both of you stared at each other as visible blushes grew on both of your faces. "If you can, can you stay in here, please? I understand if you don't want to. I'm not normally liked by people close to me. People tend to leave me but I've learned to get used to it."
"Of course I'll stay." Armin smiled as his face tinted a darker pink.
He layed back down and pulled you close to him. You put your head on his chest while he took your hand in his. He took his free hand and started playing with your hair.
"You said that people close to you tend to leave you. Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes it helps but I understand if you don't want to."
You were willing to talk about anything with Armin. He was a good listener and you always felt your built up anxiety vanish when you were with him.
"Well, I guess it all started when I was younger. I was around two when my mother died. I don't remember much about her, but I know that I loved her. After that my father started blaming us three for her death, even though she had an incurable illness. Then he started drinking. He would hurt Maya and Rita since they could understand what he was doing and he could ruin them mentally. He said that if they enlisted in the military he would kill them before the titans could. I remember that they didn't want to leave me with him. They wanted all of us to get away. They didn't end up joining until they were 17. I was 8 when they left. I was heartbroken, but my father was furious. Then he started hurting me. One night I came back from a walk and he wasn't home. I was used to this but this time I found a note on the table. It said:
Listen up bitch, your sisters were dumb enough to leave you with me as they ran off to enjoy their lives. Don't bother looking for me. I'm hapy where I am and who I'm with since you killed my wife. Wall Maria scum shouldn't be allowed inside of Wall Sina. See you in hell fucker.
I still thank my lucky stars because I ran into a Garrison patrol that night. Rita was placed in that patrol and my life was instantly better. But as many people know, both Maya and Rita are dead. I'm just scared that if I get close to people, they'll leave me as well." you started to cry as the suicidal thoughts came back.
Armin must've noticed this because he turned his body so he was hovering above you. His hands were on either side of your head while his knees were placed next to your hips. You looked up at him with a blush as he brought his hand up to wipe away your tears.
"Please, please stop blaming yourself. Just focus on me right now. Okay?"
"But nothing good will come out of me being close to you. You'll get hurt or die if you do." you saw sadness in Armin's eyes as you said this. Then something seemed to spark
"I'll take that chance then."
He leaned down until your lips met. Your face grew pink as his lit up like the red flares for the expeditions. It was short, but sweet, just like him. When he pulled away he looked at you dreamy-eyed but after realizing what he did, he looked full of panic. To let him know it was okay, you wrapped your arms around his neck and buried your head in the crook of his shoulder, taking in his scent and feeling his heartbeat vibrate against your chest. The two of you spent a few minutes in each other's embrace. Then someone knocked on the door.
"Miss [y/n]? Are you awake?"
You and Armin let go of each other. Armin took a seat in the chair next to the bed.
"Yes, I'm awake." you sat up as you tried to think of things to get rid to the blush on your face.
The door opened revealing a nurse. You swear that he looked familiar, but you couldn't put your finger on it. You felt Armin take hold of your hand when the nurse started to get closer.
"Wow! It really is you!" you stared at him, not knowing what he meant. "It's Oliver. I haven't seen you since... you know."
"Oh my god! It's been forever." you let go of Armin's hand to give your friend from years ago a hug.
You couldn't see but Armin and Oliver started glaring at each other. Oliver's face returned to normal as you let go. Your hand found Armin's as your leg started to get examined.
"So how are Rita and Maya doing? They're in their mid 20's right?"
"Well, they would be."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's okay. You didn't know."
"I know, but I still feel bad considering how close you were to them." your grip on Armin's hand tightened as you tried not to cry.
"Hey, let's drop the subject. It's obvious that she doesn't want to talk about it." Armin shot a death glare. The aura of the room dropped in an instant.
"I see. And you are?"
"Armin Arlert. What's it to you?"
"I'm sorry Mr. Arlert," he sneered, "Are you her guardian or parent?"
"And you somehow became a nurse with a brain like that?"
"Awe I'm sorry to disappoint, but if you're not a patient, parent, or guardian, I have the right to ask you to leave the infirmary wing. Now if you don't mind..." he motioned for the door.
"Wait, Oliver..." you began but you were cut off.
"Sorry hun, but it's just protocol."
"[y/n], it's fine. You should be able to use crutches to get around. Come try to find me later. We have today off, remember?" Armin gave your hand a quick squeeze and left the room without looking at Oliver.
"Well, now that he's gone, I'm gonna be honest."
You turned your attention from the door to your friend, "What do you mean by being honest?"
"Look, you don't need to have an IQ of Erwin and Hanji combined to see that he's not right for you."
"The hell does that mean?"
Don't you see? He's obviously over protective of you. He got all defensive around me."
"He's just worried for me. Don't you dare talk bad about him."
"Awwe is my little [y/n] getting mad at reality? You didn't change much, did you?"
"No, I'm just mad that you're being a jerk to him for no reason."
"Well I can't have someone stealing you from me."
Out of the corner of your eye you could see something starting to grow... down there...
"Oh hELL NO NO FUCK THIS BOI BACK THE FUCK UP HELL NAH TO THE NAH NAH!!!!" your mind was going crazy.
"Something wrong hun?"
"Oh umm so what's the deal with my leg?"
"I need to talk to your doctor about that. I only take your vitals and such."
"Can you go get them please? I want to get out of here as soon as possible."
"I suppose I can, however..."
"However what?"
"Do you want to give me something in return?"
You hesitated for a minute, knowing what he would ask of you. "What do you want?"
"Well I suppose you could take care of this..." he motioned to his crotch area.
"Seriously Oliver?! That's nasty! Just treat me like a normal patient."
"But you're not a normal patient. You're my friend and... much more than that to me."
"I'm not fucking around. Get me my doctor or I'll go get them myself." you gave him the death stare that you picked up from Armin.
"Okay, okay. God damn." he left the room in a hurry as you were left by yourself.
"I'm not used to being alone while I'm awake at least. Someone, please hurry back."
