"Hurry up and write the letter!"
"Kind of hard while you're running!"
The two soldiers raced back to the base. Their horses had been forgotten at the entrance to the military castle. They arrived at the pigeon coops that were kept over near the stables. Yes, it would normally be weird for a military affiliation to keep pigeons, but they were used as carrier pigeons for cases like this, but not at the same time. If there was a major issue on base while there was a mission going on, they would be used to carry messages, hence their name.
When they arrived at the large enclosure for the birds, they were shocked to see all of them gone.
"What?!"
"They must've been let out for a little while. There's still that one though." one of the soldiers pointed to a separate enclosure across the small area for the birds.
Inside of the cage was a rather large bird. It had a head of grey feathers that turned into a pale yellow near the beak. The front of it was pale yellow with grey patches, while the back was grey that matched the head and stomach. The beak was yellow near the base but quickly became a steel grey.
"That beast?"
"Yup. Hurry and finish that letter."
"Yes."
The first soldier was quick to get back to writing while the other prepared the giant bird for it's mission.
"Who's it's master?"
"I can't read the writing on the tag, but I'm pretty sure it's one of the high officers. You done with the note?"
"Yes." they brought the neatly written letter to the one holding onto the massive bird. They tied it onto the anklet of the bird and sent it off. It instantly took off toward the wall, which was a good sign.
"Now it's all up to them. If something happens to that (y/n) girl then we can't say we didn't try and do something."

"PlEasE eRwiN! It's not fair! It's our job to study the titans in order to defeat them! Just let me get two more! You know I make sure to take extreme precautionary measures!"
"Knock it off, Four-Eyes. I have a bad enough headache already."
"Oh? And why's that, Short Stuff?"
"None of your god damn business."
"Is it about your little argument with-"
"Hanji, that's enough." Erwin interrupted, "And no, you can't set up for titan captures. We don't have the supplies and manpower this time."
"You say that every time." Hanji said with a pout.
The formation had come to a stop at an abandoned village for a small break. Team leaders and most squad leaders were on watch for titans, cadets were responsible for refilling gas tanks and feeding the horses, while Erwin was mapping out what he decided to do next for the mission. Hanji was of course begging Erwin to let her go out and grab some titans for experimental use, but like always, he kept saying no.
The only thing that took her attention from bothering her friend was the familiar screech of a falcon. Hanji turned her attention to the direction of the sound, and to her surprise (but delight) was her falcon. Smiling at the sight in the sky, she reached into her saddle and brought out her falconry glove. A high pitched whistle left her lips as the falcon drew closer.
"Well hello there, Moltres. Didn't expect to see you here. What's goin' on baby?"
Fully knowing that she wouldn't get a response, she brought her free hand to the anklet and took the paper out of it. Before opening the paper, Hanji reached back into her saddle to take out a piece of meat. (don't question why she has it. it's just hanji)
Once the bird devoured the meat, it took off. Hanji took off the glove and walked back over toward Erwin. Without saying anything, she unfolded the note and read over it before handing it to Erwin.
"What's this?"
"It was sent back from base, you really should read this." Hanji's tone was serious, so Erwin knew she wasn't messing around. This caught Levi's attention as well.
As Erwin's eyes scanned the paper, his face grew more serious and slightly dreadful. Levi caught onto this.
"What? What is it?" Levi asked while sounding slightly nervous.
Erwin took a long pause before looking to meet Levi's eyes.
"It's about (y/n)." another pause.
"She's out here with us."
