"Morning." I said as I sat with everyone for breakfast. "Morning Suzy." they all replied together. I chuckled and started eating. It's been a week since Minho and I decided we would be friends once again. Alby and Newt were shocked, but just decided it was the best thing because Minho started to return to his normal self once again.
"How the maze?" I asked Minho who was sitting across from me. We were still getting strange looks from the boys because of our sudden closeness once again.
"Same as always. I feel like I'm so shucking close to finding an exit, but grievers always come out and stop me. It's like those shucking creators want to keep us trapped in here forever." he said as he pierced his fork into his last piece of sausage and bit into it. "What's weird though is that cliff." Minho said.
"Cliff?" I said curious. "The grievers always disappear after jumping over the cliff, but they never come back. It's like they just disappear forever." he answered my question. Then he quickly finished his food and headed out to meet the other runners to enter the maze.
"It hurts." I quietly said while looking at Newt and Alby, who wore guilty faces of regret. "Don't blame yourselves. In the end I was the one to make the choice." I said picking at my food, and listened to the doors of the maze open.
"Ow! Oww! OWWW!" Chuck screamed as I was trying to take out a splinter from his finger. "Stay still you shucking greenie! Move one more time and I'm going to knock you out with my fist!" I shouted frustrated. Chuck became a slopper, but even then he was doing a horrible job as a slopper. He stayed still from fear of me punching the shucking daylights out of him. Finally, after 5 minutes of him screaming and moving around, I was able to pull it out.
"Here." I said handing him a small lollipop. Although he was annoying at times, I couldn't help but spoil this kid at the same time. He happily took it and thanked me before exiting the tent.
"Don't know how you deal with him." Clint said walking into the tent. "Could hear him screaming down the glade." Jeff said walking behind Clint. I shrugged and continued to stock the new items we got from the creators before Chuck came running in here with his splinter.
The day went by fast, everyone had finished dinner and was not either sleeping or hanging out some place. I left the boys to rest in my hammock. Although, I agreed to be friends again with Minho, my heart couldn't take the fact that he was moving on while I just stupidly smile as he slowly forgets about his feelings for me. It was too late to regret my choice that I had made.
I closed my eyes and let myself enjoy the gentle breeze that was blowing through the glade. "Hey." I heard his voice speak. I opened my eyes to see Minho standing beside my hammock and looking down at me. "Hey." I said smiling, and closed my eyes to avoid making eye contact with him.
"You're not purposely trying to ignore me are you?" he asked. I opened my eyes to see that he was still staring at me. I forced myself to laugh. "Why would you think that?" I asked cracking a small smile.
"I mean. I'd understand since we just recently decided to become friends again. Even after everything that we both went through." Minho said rubbing the back of his neck looking towards the ground.
"I still hate you." I lied, and saw Minho go stiff. "I accepted to be your friend again, but it's going to take some time. So can you never ever just let it be the two of us alone like this again. It hurts." I said truthfully, and turned my back towards him. I could feel tears threatening to fall from my eyes. "I'm sorry." I heard him say and listened to the sound of him walking away from me.
The next morning, I woke up to the bright sky shining on my face. How could I not be tanned after being in the sun the whole day. My skin was still as pale as it was the first day I arrived here. I got up and stretched. Then, I remembered my conversation with Minho. I sighed and prepared myself for a long day.
