No one on the team knew what it was like to lose someone like Natasha Romanoff. The Red Room assassin was very good at withholding secrets from her team, especially her relationship with Brielle Lahoux. Brielle was an agent of shield, just like Natasha was. The two of them were both trained to never allow their feelings to get into the way of their work. And yet, they did just that with each other.
The two of themselves loved each other more than they knew that they could possibly love someone. They were both protective of each other in battle, and when it came to separate missions, they always needed to be with the other. So that they wouldn't spend time constantly worrying about the other.
But even when the two of them went on missions together or with the entire team of Avengers, they were separated. One specific mission was all it took for Brielle and Natasha to be taken away from each other. Brielle was injured during battle, and Natasha was the one to watch it happen. Two bullet wounds to the abdomen, an injury that was hardly survivable.
So when Natasha had to face the possibility of losing Brielle, she ignored it. Because she knew how strong Brielle was. She didn't want to think about any possibility of losing her, until she was forced to.
