I let out a groan, as I felt a dull ache ascend from my chest. I tried moving to my left side hoping to reduce the pain, but that just made things alot worse.
"Hey, try to lay still." I heard a voice.
Opening my eyes I came in contact with a pair of hazel eyes. Gazing at the man's face I noticed his lashes were really long leaving a slight shadow and his eyebrows were nice, thick, and defined. His jawline and nose were really sharp, his cheekbone was nicely elongated, and the the top of his lip had a nice arch to it. His hair was on the short side, and he didn't have the 5 o'clock shadow that I oh so liked. But none the less, he was one good looking guy.
Realizing what I was doing, I began to cough to disguise myself. I saw the smirk on the guys face, causing me to blush. He knew I was checking him out.
"How's the pain?" he asks after a short while.
Looking away from his face I took a moment to reply. "It's...manageable."
Smiling, he pulls up a chair next to the bed and sits down. "I know you're tired," he says. "But, since you're awake and alert, do you mind me asking you a few questions."
The look of curiosity is sketched all over his face. I nod my head yes, earning a smile from him.
"Okay, so what's your name?"
I looked into his piercing hazel eyes, before telling him my name. "Evelyn."
He leans back in his chair and smiles again."Well Evelyn, I'm Tyler. Do you remember the last thing that happened to you?"
Closing my eyes, I thought hard of what had last happened to me. When I came into view with my hands inside a mans chest, and Tyler standing opposite of me, yelling at me, I opened my eyes.
"The man," I quickly say. "The one who had cardiac tamponade, ugghh I forgot his name," I groan. "Is he alive?"
"Valencio," he says. "That's his name and yes he is alive."
"All thanks to you," he curtly adds.
"How-," he pauses before getting up and walking to the front of the bed. He begins to pace back and forth and rubs the back of his neck. "How did you know what was wrong with him and what to do. Are you a doctor?"
He stops pacing, and now has his hands at the edge of the board of the bed. He continues glaring at me, waiting for a response.
"I'm a cardiothoracic surgeon."
As soon as those words fell from my mouth, his eyes widen in shock.
"You're-," he pauses. "You're a cardiothoracic surgeon?"
I nod my head.
He starts to pace again, processing what I just said and a quick thought comes into my head.
"Where am I?" I ask.
Briskly turning around, he walks back to his seat and sits down. "You're at the U.S. Army base here in Russia."
"Russia!"I yell in shock. "I'm in Russia?"
My shock brought concern on Tyler's face.
"Where were you before?"
"I'm in Russia?" I ask again in disbelief.
"Were you somewhere before?"
I shake my head yes. "I was in Afghanistan."
Russia? How in the world did I end up in Russia? Was I here in Russia for the past couple of months? I begin to wonder what other countries I may have possibly been in without knowing.
"So you're from Afghanistan?" he asks confused.
Swifting my head quickly towards him I respond, "no. I'm from New York."
This just made Tyler scowl even more in confusion. "Wait, so you're from New York, but you were in Afghanistan?" he asks.
"Yes."
"So were you on vacation in Afghanistan?"
"No," I shake my head. "I was apart of doctors without borders."
Understanding more of the situation, Tyler nods his head.
"Tyler we need you up front." A voice echoes through the walkie talkie inside Tyler's pocket.
Tyler takes out the walkie talkie and responds. "I'll be right there."
He gets up and hands me a small cup with two pills inside. "Take these pills."
I take the small cup from his hand, and pick up one of the pills. Tyler begins to walk away as I was about to put the pills in my mouth, but turns around. "Rest as much as you can. I'll come back to check up on you once I'm free."
And with that he left the room.
Tylers P.o.V
As I closed the door behind me, everything thing that Evelyn had said flooded my mind. Was she telling the truth? It looked like she was but then again people can be deceiving. Especially spies. They were specially trained to be able to manipulate people's minds.
As I exited the clinic, I saw a large truck parked in front, with some of the other doctors and soldiers unloading our new shipment of medications and tools.
"Captain Woods." One of the cadets approached me with a folder in his hand.
Not moving my gaze from the truck I nod at him. "I need your signature on these papers for the shipment."
Grabbing the pen and paper from his hand I quickly sign the paper and hand it back to him, when I noticed Nick, Travis and Jacob at the far end. Looking back at the shipment, I began to walk towards them.
"Any news?" I ask as I approached them.
"No," replies Travis. "But I heard you guys had an incident with her this morning."
"Yeah," I nod while scratching the back of my neck. "I was able to get some info out of her."
This catches all of their attention.
"See what you can pull up on an Evelyn. She lives in New York and was a part of doctors without borders in Afghanistan. It's time we figure out who she is."
