"W-what? If Evelyn is dead, then who's the girl we found that looks just like her?" mumbled Cody. Raising his head up as if he just solved the world's greatest jigsaw puzzle he continued, "what if she's actually a ghost who possessed some innocent girls body and morphed her face to look like hers, so that she could get revenge."

"Yeah," I agree sarcastically. "And you might be her first victim since you'll have to check up on her next."

Cody gulps causing his throat to reverberate, and his eyes widen in shock.

"How about we switch, and you check up on her, and I'll....and I'll take over all the night shifts for the next two weeks."

Shaking my head in laughter I walk away headings towards the direction of so called 'Evelyn's' room. As I stood in front of her door, I peeked through the small window to see her sleeping peacefully in her bed.

"Is she awake?" Cody breathed behind my neck.

"Sh**, don't do that." I yell.

Peeking over my shoulder Cody tried to get a glance through the window.

"Walk," I commanded while pointing down the hallway.

All night I sat in my seat at the front desk of the clinic, processing everything inside my head. While Cody was on a vigilant watch. Nothing seemed to make sense to me. The injuries on the girl, and the way she spoke to me told me that she couldn't be making up anything she had said. Her dark brown eyes held some kind of an innocence to it. They way she hesitated to say her name, I saw the fear inside her very similar to another patient of mines who was apart of human trafficking. They both held the same fear inside and they way they both shifted their bodies spoke a lot.

As the sun started to rise and the next shift doctors started to flood the clinic, I stepped out the clinic with Cody right behind heading towards our tent. I stopped walking when I noticed Clayton, our commander heading towards the clinic with a few other men. Cody bumped into me from behind, causing me to trot forward a little. Turning around I gave Cody a gleaming look before running towards Clayton.

"Sir," I saluted when I approached Clayton.

"Ahh, Tyler, just the man I was looking for."

Cody came up running behind me and saluted at Clayton which earned him a nod.

"I need you to hand over all of Ms. Evelyn's reports, and bring her out." Said Clayton.

Bring her out? "With all due respect sir, may I ask why?"

"We have reason to believe that she is a fraud, and could be a possible threat to all of us."

A possible threat?

"Bring her out." He urged Cody.

Cody looked over at me, his face asking me what he should do. Instinct took over, and I had a sudden urge to defend Evelyn. "I'm sorry sir, but I'm afraid I can't bring her out."

Clayton straightened his shoulder before responding. "I wasn't asking you Captain Wood's. I commanded you. And as your commander you will do as I say, or you will have to pay the consequences."

"She is in no shape to be able to move," I continued to defend. "She needs to be in bed rest for her injuries to fully heal."

Spreading his legs apart for a better stance, Clayton rubs his chin. "If I do so recall Captain Wood's, didn't this same person save a patient of yours? How was she able to get out of her bed then?"

SH**. I didn't know what to say next. Looking up at Clayton, I saw him grinning at me with a look that read 'I win'.

"Sir, if you don't mind me saying something," Cody chimed in, "but that girl risked her life to save a patient. Her condition has gotten worse after that incident, and so I agree with Captain Wood's and think that we should let her rest and allow her wounds to heal."

Damn, Cody. Yes. Finally, you're using that brain of yours.

"Two weeks." I interrupt. "Give her two weeks to properly heal, and then I will personally bring her to you myself."

"Two weeks." Clayton repeats while coming closer to me. "But if you don't bring her to me by then," he says while pushing his index finger into my chest, "I will have your a** on the line."

Staring back into his eyes, telling him that I was not going to back out of my own words, Clayton turns around and leaves with the men he came with.

Facing Cody, I smirk at him. "I thought you were scared of her?" I ask.

"Hey I'm not scared of her," he quickly answers. "I just like to be precautious that's all."

"Then why did you defend her?"

"Why did you defend her?" he retaliates. I shrug my shoulders not being able to respond to him. "I only defended her, because you did the same thing. I don't know why you did it, but there's always a reason behind the things that you do. And shouldn't you be thanking me for helping you defend her. You looked like you were about to piss in your pants, when Clayton called you out."

Giving Cody a glaring look, he took off, running as fast as he could. I watch him run before yelling at him, "don't forget, you're covering all the night shifts for the next two weeks." I chuckle.

Turning around I head towards my tent, with Cody's words taunting me. Why did you defend her?

Why did I defend her?
