She had wanted to go ice skating for as long as she could remember, but for some reason it had never seemed as difficult as it actually was. The rink was full of people, kids racing and laughing, couples holding hands, and then there was Tris.

Her face was flushed as she tried to keep her balance on her ice blades. She gripped the wall and let out a breath. It was way harder than it looked.

It was beautiful out, the rink reflected the Christmas lights, and cheesy Christmas music played on the speakers. Tris wished she could enjoy it all, while skating though. She couldn't seem to figure out how to skate forward without wobbling. So she stuck close to the wall and watched others slide across the ice in a way that seemed effortless.

At least, she tried to. Suddenly someone came zooming towards her. She couldn't move anyway, and she was crashed into the wall. The boy was tall, he had his hair hidden by a hat, and his olive skin was flushed from the cold. He gripped Tris as she almost fell, and frowned. "I'm so sorry! Are you alright?"

Tris adjusted her own hat and then let out a breath in the cold air. "Yeah, yeah."

The boy was about to reply when another one came sliding to a halt next to him. "Bro! You got to watch where you are going!"

The first boy glared. "I haven't skated in a while." He turned and looked at Tris. "I'm Uriah, and I'm so sorry I ran into you."

The boy next to Uriah laughed. "You are terrible Uri." He then glanced at Tris. "Who are you?"

"Tris."

He smiled. "I'm Zeke, and this is my brother." He motioned to Uriah. "I haven't seen you skating around, are you alright?"

Tris was about to reply, but a group of people came up and stopped as well. Tris watched them stop effortlessly as if they weren't gliding on ice. "Stop flirting!" A third boy laughed, and patted Zeke's back.

Tris blushed bright, and turned back so she could attempt to skate away. "Do you need help?" One of the girls who joined the group skated next to her. Her hair was pinned up in a white beanie. Her jacket was bright white as well, and was bright against her mocha skin. The girl had her chocolate eyes on Tris. "I'm Christina."

Tris would have shaken her hand if she wasn't using it for balance. "I'm Tris."

"Sorry about the Pedrad brothers, I don't know what gets into them sometime. They were racing, and then Uri crashed into you, I'm so sorry about that." Christina rambled on, grabbing Tris' arm.

Tris laughed. "I just don't understand how people become so good at this."

Christina laughed as well. "Well, the boys played hockey when they were young. Four, we don't know how he got good at this. Um... me and the girls have come ice skating forever, is this your first time?"

Tris didn't want to mention that she didn't know half of the people she brought up. "Yeah... " She blushed, and wobbled almost falling.

Another girl joined them on the side. "Oh, hello." She smiled warmly, and laced her arm with Tris' other arm. There girls are so nice.

"Hi." Tris felt her inner shyness start to disappear.

"I'm Marlene., who are you?" Marlene spoke, Tris noticed her dark hair and a headband that covered her ears.

    "Tris."

A third girl skated in front of Tris, and started skating backwards. "I think we should just introduce you to the group, so you don't get the same questions." She laughed. "I'm Shauna." Shauna said, and then started skating around.
