Melanie's POV:
"I hate you."
Darla groans from the inside of her closet. "I thought we were over this?"
I scoff, picking the chipped nail polish off of my pinkie. "I'm definitely not over it."
A crashing noise comes from the closet and I assume Darla fell over while trying to change. "Don't be such a...drama queen." Darla huffs, stumbling out of her closet with one boot on. "Don't look at me like that. My foot got tangled up in a shirt on the ground."
I drop my hands to my lap. "I just don't want to go alone. Only losers go alone. I don't want to be a loser!"
Darla rolls her eyes at me, sliding her other boot on. "Stiles is going."
I narrow my eyes. "Why are you always bringing Stiles up?"
"Don't think I haven't noticed this little crush you have on him." Darla wags her finger in my face.
Slapping her hand away, I shake my head. "You should get yours eyes checked because I don't like him."
"And you're full of sh-"
"Do we have to get the swear jar back out?" Darla's mom enters the room, giving her daughter a look. I smirk, thankfully that Mrs. Mahealani helped change the subject.
I don't like Stiles.
"Mom, I was five." Darla groans.
"Yeah, and you cussed like a sailor. I blame your Uncle Caleb for teaching you all of those words when he would babysit you." Mrs. Mahealani shakes her head before looking at what the two of us are wearing. "You're going out tonight?"
"I actually have a date." Darla beams in excitement.
She really does look happy. I guess I shouldn't be too mad at her for going with Scott. Parties are just so awkward when you go by yourself. I don't really talk to anyone else and I'm sure everyone will be talking to their date or friends.
"What's his name?" Mrs. Mahealani claps her hand a little bit too excited.
"Scott McCall."
"Haven't you two been friends for years?"
Darla shrugs, "Kind of."
Mrs. Mahealani turns to look at me on the bed. "And what are your plans for the night?"
I half curl my lip. "I'm going to the party by myself. I'll probably be leaning up against a wall with a couple trying to suck their faces off on my right and on my left, a guy will be so wasted that he is trying to hook up with a fake plant."
"Don't be so melodramatic." Darla runs her fingers through her hair.
"You know that I don't like you going to high school parties." Darla's mom sighs.
Darla worriedly glances at me. "Mom, we're just going there to hang out and dance. We're not going to drink and Danny will be there."
"Don't worry, Mrs. Mahealani. We'll be careful." I reassure her, sending her an award winning smile.
Mrs. Mahealani walks towards the door. "Just stay close to your brother. "
"Of course." Darla lies straight through her teeth.
Once her bedroom door is shut, I jump to my feet. Right now, the party is already started, which means I should probably leave soon. Darla is just waiting for Scott to pick her up and there's really no reason for me to stay here any longer.
