Me: Hey guys! I'm trying out a new format so just bear with me, alright?
Anya: Changing things eighteen chapters in? Risky.
Me: It'll be fine. Please enjoy!
The Outsiders base was an average-looking abandoned concrete building. The windows were boarded up and bits of glass were poking out, so anyone who tried to break in would still get cut. The wooden door was falling off of one hinge, laying crooked across the frame.
They went inside, and immediately Anya and Jinora noticed a large trapdoor in the far left corner. It looked significantly more secure than the outside of the building. There was one guard in the far right corner, a bulky blond man with a healing scar across his cheek. He seemed to have been recently in a fight of some kind. The guard nodded to the man guiding Anya and Jinora towards the trap door. He unlocked the padlock and pulled the door open.
Concrete stairs led downwards into what looked like a small hallway, and then darkness. "Go." The man ordered. Anya started down the steps, but once she got to the bottom, she stopped. There was no end in sight to the hallway, because beyond where she stood, it was pitch black. Jinora bumped into her as she tried to keep walking.
"Anya?" She said. "What's wrong?" Anya didn't respond.
The guard came down the steps and assessed the situation. "What's the matter with you kid?" He asked. "Go!"
"Do you-" Anya started. "Can I light the way with my bending?"
"Whatever." The guard said. "Just go."
Anya nodded stiffly and created a flame in the palm of her hand and started walking. The hall was cramped, making it hard to walk in, let alone run. "Hard to escape from." Anya thought.
Jinora walked up to her sister. "Hey, are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah." Anya replied. "But I'll feel a lot better once we get out of here."
After walking for a few more minutes they arrived at a large metal door. It had no handle or locks, it was just completely smooth. The man did a series of knocks. Short short long, short short. From the other side of the door came two long knocks, and the man delivered two more short ones. The door slid open, and Anya and Jinora walked inside.
Once inside, Anya and Jinora were steered towards another hallway to the left. At the end of that hallway was another door, but this one seemed to lead to a room, considering it had a handle on the outside and no locks. The man opened the door.
"Gibbons sir," the man said. "I bring you a token to right past wrongs. The daughters of Master Tenzin, granddaughters of Avatar Aang."
A man sitting in a large chair turned around. There was a desk in front of him, facing towards the door, and a single counter going along the opposite three walls. On the counter was paperwork, an intercom system, and a stack of files. The man himself had short gray hair, and stubble. He had envy-green eyes, and was wearing a business suit.
The man studied the girls for a moment, but smiled. "Fine work, Makins." He said. "Report to the logistics center. Only two hours today."
The guard nodded in salute, said "Thank you sir.", and walked out.
Gibbons focused his gaze back on Anya and Jinora. He didn't speak for a long while, so he caught Jinora off guard when he said, "Airbend."
