Days past and nothing exciting seemed to happen. The agreement on getting to know one another with my biological family came through when I never really expected it to. They were there for breakfast and dinner, ready to talk about certain topics but the thing is, all they continued to talk about was themselves and of course, Chris. They never really asked me anything relevant or irrelevant and when they would, they use that topic and bring it back to themselves.
I never really said anything—just listened to them talk. At least they were going through part of the agreement: me, getting to know them. They talked about sports they liked, and they briefly mentioned how Philip knew Loren through college. Loren was a former cheerleader of their college while Philip was a player of the football team. They were both proud of Chris for wanting to choose the same career that Philip did and praised him.
Chris liked it, I could tell that he never really got the recognition all throughout living with them but now, he was getting it and he seemed happy so in a way, I don't know, I felt happy for him too.
I was definitely warming up to Chris, and I knew that he could tell, especially when he would make jokes in the car with Kelly sitting shotgun, quiet to himself. Sometimes, the two of them would be talking and I would be the one that was quiet. We never really spoke, Kelly and I, after the first day incident with her girlfriend but I never really cared about it and he seemed to which was expected when it's his girlfriend.
Cassie never really did anything after what I had said. She would stare at me with daggers in her eyes and would do the same to Kevin, Alison, and Caroline but we never fought back. All she did was stare which wasn't harming anyone and we just ignored her.
I've come to like my friends. They've been there for me more than my biological family had. I still have a problem in trusting them as I do in everyone I've met, but I've learned not to judge them in what I see immediately and let them explain whenever they want to. Forcing someone in telling themselves who they are makes them feel like you don't trust them and makes you look like a douche.
Speaking of douche, I've been watching my back for sometime now, making sure that no one hasn't been following me or more specifically Luke. I'd throw him a bone here and there, where they would try to look but would come out empty handed, making sure that they were kept busy.
"So," Kevin sits with Alison by his side, both of them carrying a tray with their food while grinning at me and Caroline. "I'm hosting a party tonight for my birthday. You two are coming, right?"
Birthday? I'm not even prepared to give him a gift for his birthday. I should probably get something later for him.
"Are you specifically saying that it's your birthday so that we don't have any choice to say no because if we did, we'll look like we're bad friends?" Caroline cocks a brow and points her index finger at him.
Kevin nods. "Yup. Definitely that."
"Well, I don't have that much things to wear for your party," Alison shrugs and turns to me. "You want to go shopping with Care and I later? It could be fun. We could stay at my place later to do each other's makeup."
A chance to hangout with my friends rather than hanging out at the big empty house where the butler seems to try and try to get into my business each time I come home?
"Definitely," I answer, smiling at them.
Before any of us could talk more, Kevin and Alison's gaze turns towards something behind us. Caroline and I follow and we see Kelly, Chris, and Cassie behind them.
