"Dad? Dad, what's happening?"

"The breaks aren't working!"

My hands grips at the door handle, looking everywhere.

"There's a kid! Do something, Henry!"

My eyes are wide, heart pounding in my chest but I never scream. The only screams I was hearing were of my mom and dad's.

My eyes open, beads of sweat rolling down my face, already sitting up from the motel bed.

Something was vibrating. I glance at the bedside table, seeing my phone light up from somebody calling. The time was two-thirty-six and the cocoa drink I had made for myself wasn't working anymore to keep the nightmares away. It was slowly wearing off, and I'm starting to get worried about what I can take in order for me to just be able to sleep when it does fully wear off.

Taking my phone, I slide my thumb across the screen, not bothering to look at the caller ID. "It's in the middle of the night. Whoever this is better have a reason as to why—"

"Sorry, I just wanted to check up on you," it was Nathan's voice. It was clear that he hasn't slept yet, probably since his work requires abnormal time for him to be there. It's 24/7 his life, no matter what. "If you were sleeping, I can call back later."

Shaking my head even though he can't see me, I reply to him, "No, no. I was awake anyway. Can't sleep again. You okay, Nate?"

"Yeah," he answers, no falter in it, no lies. "You having nightmares again even with the cocoa?"

I didn't say anything because I didn't have to. He already knew that they were wearing off. It worked for several months after mom and dad's death but soon enough, I was resorting to drinking to get blackout drunk and will be able to sleep since sleeping pills aren't accessible easily.

When I got off the alcohol, I resorted back to cocoa but it wasn't helping me as much as the alcohol.

"Let's just talk about something else," I utter, waving my hand dismissively. "Hey, you sad that the triplets are going to be here at Saturday. It's Monday and I haven't seen them."

"That's because I told them to keep distance," he declares. "I wouldn't want them to come back here, the same way as Jack—beaten and forced to leave the town. They're keeping a close eye on you from a far away distance, one where you wouldn't be even to tell that you're being followed."

Of course, he advises them to stay a few feet away from me just to make sure that I was kept safe. Nathan always knows me better than I know myself and I'm pretty sure that he knows that if I ever see one of the triplets, I was going to make sure that they even regret coming here.

I roll my eyes. "You're still being overprotective of me. Like I said the last time we talked, you do realize that I can handle myself? I still have the collection at the secret compartment of my luggage, the one you forced me to stuff with weapons."

"Yes, but you agreed, told me to send someone who isn't your ex-boyfriend," I can just imagine the smugness on his face right now. Its what siblings do best, annoy one another. "And even though you did screw around with one of them, they're still not considered as your exes since you never really dated them. By the way, did you know that the reason Connor agreed to the who 'friends with benefits' thing was because he had the biggest crush on you?"

Connor Collins, one of the triplets, the one who became the closest to a friend I had right after the whole colossal shit that happened in my life.
