* * * *
It's been a while since I saw my parents. Going back home was the easiest decision. I've missed them, and frankly, have been missing Chris too. It was the day wherein we decided to be with each other for a few days before leaving again for college.
The house hasn't changed on its exterior when I arrived. Roman was the first one to greet me.
"Nice to see you again, Ms. Murdock," he nods, curtly. "You have been thoroughly missed by everyone."
"Hi, Roman," I can't help but grin. It's been about a year now since I saw him. I was finally on my last year, and I was thankful to the professors who made sure to lessen the burden of works now that graduation is coming up.
I've been too busy finishing up plates, making sure that they were good enough to pass to my professors. That's why I haven't been visiting them for a year, only been talking to them on the phone whenever the free time came up. Being back home was nice, it made me feel warm again.
"Well, I can't believe my eyes," Chris approaches suddenly, his arms widening open. "I thought for sure you were going to cancel again."
I snicker, hugging him tightly. He's gotten stronger from the last time I saw him, more muscles, and gotten a little taller. "I know, I know, I've been a flake. Thank God I'm on my last year because the finals have been a little lighter than the past few years I've been there. I can't believe I'm finally back."
"I hear her! I hear her!"
Loren yells excitedly, shrieking as she runs up to me and pushes Chris out of the way. "Oh, my baby girl! You're finally back! Please, tell me you're staying in for a few days just like your brother."
"Lor, don't suffocate her, okay?" Philip walks in too, laughing at Loren when she just continues to hug me so tight. I think I might start turning blue from the lack of oxygen I was getting.
"Mom! I'm here too!" Chris waves. "Okay, she's not going to notice me for a while."
As Loren finally lets me go, she slaps him at the back of his head, earning her a yelp coming from him. "Oh, stop it. I miss the both of you as always when you're not here but your sister the most because she hasn't been here for a long time."
"I missed you too, ma." I tilt my head to get a better view of Philip. "You too, pops."
Yup. It took a long time to get used to calling them ma and pops. Since I was so used to calling my adopted parents, mom and dad, they had to settle for ma and pops. It was definitely weird at first, but when Dr. Sands told me to keep going, I got used to it—to the idea that I finally view them as my parents. Needless to say, everyone was finally happy that we were acting as a family.
Dr. Sands stopped being my therapist right after the first year of graduation. Because it was so hard to keep up with the sessions physically, online was the way to go. We would have sessions on video call. When I've finally had a chance to stand up by my two feet, I've decided to tell him that I won't be needing to see him anymore, as I felt that I was finally okay.
