The next week came around quickly; Cheryl having rested throughout the weekend before returning to work that Monday. She'd spent the first couple days of the week catching up on work in between working with other lawyers, though on the Wednesday, she'd had to go to court with Danielle Peazer for the custody hearing, which had been successful. Everything seemed to be falling back into place again which was great, and despite everything, Cheryl was feeling okay.
Today was Thursday; Cheryl walked into work with slight apprehension yet with her head held high. The memories of what happened nearly two weeks ago obviously weren't going away just overnight – Cheryl had some time scheduled in with her long-time therapist for this week to help her get through things as well. Looking incredibly chic in her trendy grey, long sleeved dress that stopped just above her knees, her black ankle boots and black blazer, she made her way to the elevator and pressed the button, breathing out as she waited for the doors to ping open. Her hair was up in a ponytail to keep it out of the way, she kept her facial makeup to a minimum – she truly did feel okay today, but she knew it would still take a bit to feel one-hundred percent normal.
As well as resting over the last few days, she had also taken some time to speak with her brother about what she was thinking about this job offer that would take them to America for a while. While she knew that her brother thought it was a great opportunity, she knew that her heart wasn't in this at all. Things had been put into perspective for her; this job, while a great opportunity, was not where her heart was – her heart was in England. She had worked so hard to build her law firm from scratch with her own hands, and this was where she would stay – at home in England, with her roots. What surprised her however was when she had told Garry, he too shared his own thoughts on the job idea – and he too stated that he felt like this was too far away from their families and that life was too precious to be going halfway across the world to live for their work. England was their roots; they were staying in England.
As Cheryl stepped off the elevator, she took a deep breath and made her way down the hallway to the conference room. This morning, she and Garry had a meeting with the board where their license for law was from, to formally turn down the offer and explain that they wanted to stay in England. They knew that most people would call them crazy for turning this offer down, but nobody had any idea how much their family meant to them – way more than some job that would have plenty of other offers in the future.
"Good morning Attorney Cole!"
"Morning, Chezza!"
"Morning Ms. Cole!"
Cheryl waved as she passed the various staff members of the firm, smiling at them as they greeted her. She made her way into the conference room, seeing her brother already waiting with a cup of coffee for them both.
"You sure we're doing the right thing?" he asked, giving her a smile. She nodded her head, smiling back.
"This isn't in our hearts, Gaz; we both know it." She told him. He nodded his head before holding out his pinky finger, making her giggle softly as she linked her pinky with his; the pair doing their little handshake that they'd done since they were kids.
"Tweedy and Cole is going nowhere – London only, for now." He smirked. She nodded her head, squeezing his hand before they both sat down beside each other again. A few moments later, the doors opened again – the board of lawyers were being ushered into the room by Lily. Lily gave the two attorneys a supportive smile which they both returned, before they then turned to the four high powered lawyers that were sitting across from them.
"Lovely to see you both again, Attorney Cole and Attorney Tweedy," John greeted them, "I must say, we were all surprised when you called us to say you'd already reached a decision about the offer we've presented to you all."
