"So...will you help me, Sans?"
"Kiddo...I'm not sure I can. Just because I know about timelines doesn't mean I can do anything about them."
"You mean I'm stuck here? But what about my friends? They could be in danger!"
"Relax, Frisk, I didn't say that. I said I couldn't do anything about it. I didn't say nobody could..."

"Chara?"
Sans froze, his body forcefully relaxed as he watched the child beside him out of the corner of his eye. He wasn't exactly sure what he expected... He'd known it was only a matter of time before they ran into each other, he'd just hoped that maybe it wouldn't have been so soon...
Chara's face went slack at the voice, eyes void of emotion as she slowly turned around to face the golden flower that had called her name. A dark light flickered across her features as she gazed down at the monster, the muscles in her cheek twitching as she resisted the urge to clench her jaw.
Seemingly unaware of the human's almost hostile behavior, Flowey broke out in a grin, tilting his head to the side slightly. His conflicting joy and apprehension shone blatantly on his face, but he seemed either unable to process the feelings or simply didn't care enough to bother with them.
"It's me, Chara, your best friend!" he greeted, a slight sadistic light leaking into his expression. With her here, he wouldn't have to worry about being all alone in the underground... they could turn everyone to dust, reset it all, and keep the game going.
Chara's lips curled slightly in a mixture of disgust and a wince. She crossed her arms over her chest, towering over the smaller creature with a disapproving aura. Sans watched the interaction with a lazy yawn, hands in his pockets, leaned against an eroded stone wall, eyes drifting closed every few moments.
"No," Chara growled, turning her head away from the flower, "you're just the useless remains of who he used to be." Flowey shrunk back at her harsh tone, shock passing over his face before it was replaced almost immediately with anger. As opposed to directing his rage at the one who renounced him, the monster turned on Sans. He hissed, fangs bared, vines curling into the air, their sharp thorns glistening in the sunlight.
"You did something to her," he accused, snarling. "What did you do to my sister?!" The vines shot out at the skeleton, ready to crush his bones and ground them into dust. Before they could reach the half-sleeping monster, however, one eye flew open, blazing with blue fire. The vines were knocked away by a volley of bones that shot up from the ground, sinking back down once their task was complete.
"I didn't do anything," Sans muttered, re-positioning himself against the wall. The flower glared at him, not convinced. The skeleton shrugged, hands still in his pockets as he closed his eyes again. "Well, I told her to act like Frisk 'till we got the kid back, but something tells me that's not what's going on here." Flowey looked up at his un-dead sister, face contorted in confusion more than anything else. He didn't have the capacity to feel the emotions he presented in this situation, but he knew what he should be feeling, and that seemed enough for him to be hurt.
"Come on, Chara, it's still me!" he tried again, leaning towards the girl before the glare she cast over her shoulder caused him to shrink back once more. "Are you mad at me because I got us killed...? Because I get it now, it's kill or be killed. I should've done what you told me and fought those people that were attacking us," he relented eagerly. Chara flinched, spinning around to face him with a furious air about her.
"Shut up," she seethed, her knife in hand, pointed straight at the flower's face. The monster froze, eyes locked on the blade, a cold feeling stretching through his empty core. "You are not Asriel, so don't you dare speak as if you were." Sans opened an eye, peering at the scene before him with a confused intrigue. He couldn't help but recall their earlier conversation, and feel as if he might be putting the pieces together...
"C-Chara, I..." Flowey stuttered at knifepoint, his petals curling in shuddering apprehension. The human scowled at him, twisting her blade slightly, causing the sun to glint off its metal surface.
"Get out of here," she growled lowly. The buttercup flower hesitated a moment more, soulless yet wounded eyes searching his sisters. All he found was a cold, determined light, and he flinched before casting Sans another dirty look and vanishing into the ground. The skeleton regarded Chara with a passive expression, letting out a low chuckle as he stood up off the wall.
Chara put the knife away as Sans approached, her eyes hard and trained on the ground as troubled thoughts danced in her eyes. Sans stopped right in front of her, hands in his pockets.
"Alright, kid... I think you've got some explaining to do."
