"Immortality? That's impossible," I breathed out.
"It's supposed to be, until your grandmother created it years ago."
"My grandmother is dead."
"Because she was hunted down."
"Just like my parents," I said, realization hitting me. "So now I'm the only one left?"
"Yes."
"So that means I'm next?"
"Maybe, but your protected, your family members were not."
"But wait," I paused, remembering my Aunt, "I was visited the other day by a Benna Carter, she claimed to be my aunt."
"Benna Carter is not your Aunt, she's a scum."
"She's a witch, she's one of you."
"She's a nasty witch, she makes deals with demons to get people killed."
"Do you think it's her who-"
"No but she most likely told them where you were and may have with your family."
I stood, "I need to go, tell me where I Can find her."
"No, its dangerous, your father wouldn't want that."
"My father's dead."
His face softened, "Dead?"
I gulped, nodding, trying to keep the tears away, "He found his way to the institute, multiple demon bites on his body, it was too late to save him."
"I'm sorry."
"Me too, and in order to save the one parent I have left, I need to find Benna."
He sighed, "The only thing I know is that she lives somewhere inMassachusetts, most likely a really small town."
"What should I expect, if I find her?"
"She'll deny everything, it'll be a trap."
"We'll be ready, I know we will."
"Protect yourself." He stood, "Your father would be proud of you, he raised a brave shadowhunter."
We gathered in the library when we arrived back at the institute, everyone anxiously awaiting for me to start talking. I slid a drawing of the rune to the middle of the table, along with the steles and swords, "This is what they want."
"What do they want with these?"
"Twenty years ago, my grandmother created a rune that no one other than my family has seen. A dangerous one. Word went around and a lot of people wanted it, some way more than others. When my grandmother was killed, this stuff was passed to my parents and now that they're in the situations they are in, I inherited it."
"What exactly is it?" Simon asked for anyone.
"The rune." I stopped to look at each of their faces before continuing, "The rune is for immortality."
"Immorality, that's-"
"I Know it's impossible,'' I interrupted Alec, "But no one's ever used it, they only know about its existence."
"So all this is over a rune?" Jace asked.
"But why were my parents involved?"
I looked at James, "Because they were protecting me."
"What is going to happen now?" Izzy asked.
"There's a woman, named Benna Carter, she's the one wwho visited the institute. Magnus believes she's working for the man who killed most of my family and I'm going to look for her."
"Your mad," Jace exclaimed.
"I'm not mad, I'm just, I'm finding my family and ending this."
"There's only one person left and it's your mother, she could be dead by now," James said.
"Yes, she could be but I'm not stopping until I know."
"It could be a trap," Clary said.
"It is, but, I'm going, with or without any of you."
"I don't feel right for all of us to be going with you," said Alec, most likely fearing his family's lives.
"I understand that, none of you have to come, it's your choices."
"I'm going, no question," James said.
"Me too, wherever you go, I go," Jace said to me.
"We're all going with you, because your family now, without you our family wouldn't be completely," Izzy said.
"Thank you guys," I said to them, a grateful smile on my lips.
"How much longer?" whined Isabelle as we sat on the metro for what felt like hours.
Okay, to be honest, I don't blame her for complaining. The metro was disgusting, and us not being glamoured didn't help much. The smell was unbearable, the smell of sweat and gas was causing a headache, the men who boarded the bus were staring at us until the guys said something, and we were all getting cranky and tired.
I turned my head, seeing a group of girls giggling and staring at almost all the guys, especially Jace, "Those girls are staring at you."
He smiled down at me, "Because I'm stunningly attractive."
I giggled, "They're pretty hot."
He shrugged, "They're alright, your better."
I smiled as he kissed me softly, "Can you do that again?"
"Gladly." His lips attached themselves to mine again, before our interruption.
"Lover birds, stop sucking face so we can talk," Simon said.
"What is three to talk about?"
"How about when the hell we get off this nasty thing," Iz said, shivering as she noticed a grungy man smirk at her.
"Well, we do have another two days," Alec said.
"Or we could get off next stop and maybe get some dinner, and a couple rooms."
"With what money?" Clary asked James.
I pulled out a wad of cash that was a couple hundred, "I always kept two hundred dollars in my bag for emergencies, I grabbed it before we left."
"We can find a cheap hotel somewhere, and some food," Jace said as the metro came to a halting stop, causing Simon to fall out off his seat and us to laugh at him.
"Are you sure this is it?" Izzy asked as we stared up at a really creepy hotel, so creepy it looked like it was out of a scary movie with the blinking signs, the old doors and the older ragged man at the check in desk.
"The man said it was up this way," Jace said.
"Maybe you shouldn't true strangers," I commented.
"You trusted me when me first met," Jace looked at me.
"I didn't," James said, causing me to glare at him.
"Whose going to pay?" Clary asked, rubbing her arms from the chill.
"I guess I will."
Jace grabbed me, stopping me from going inside, "Give me the money, I'll do it, go wait by the rooms."
Us girls were freezing when Jace came back, holding two room keys, "Ones a double with a pull out, the other is a single."
Izzy took the first key, "Guess we're all together."
"I'll share with Jace," I piped up.
"No, absolutely not," James said.
"Oh come on James."
"No, I don't trust him."
"It's not like we would be having sex!"
"We wouldn't?" Jace butted in sarcastically, trying to irritate James.
"You see what goes through his mind?"
"Relax, he was kidding."
"Well, how about I take the room with Aly and you take the fold out?" James suggested.
"Or how about you suck it up and sleep on the fold out?" I glared.
He folded under my sharp intense stare, "Fine."
"Let's go, our honeymoon suit awaits," Jace said, loud enough to cause James' eye to twitch slightly.
"Don't antagonize him."
"I wasn't."
"Liar."
While Jace went to shower, I found myself sitting on the ugly floral comfortable, unsure of what to do. I kicked off my heavy boots, falling back on the bed, letting my head rest on the soft pillow as my ears listened to the sound of the shower running, my head starting to wander off about Jace being naked only one room away.
My thoughts were interrupted when Jace came out of the bathroom, still dressed, "Something wrong?" I asked him.
"No warm water."
"You have enough heat, you should be able to handle some cold water."
"Is that your way of calling me hot?"
I moved, sitting on the edge of the bed, "Maybe."
He came over, standing over me and touching my cheek, "Well, your pretty hot too."
I smiled, wanting him to kiss me but he didn't. "You know, this is the part when your supposed to kiss me."
"James said-"
"Forget James," I said, standing up to where I stood a little ways under him, making him look down at me.
"He'll murder me."
"Not if he doesn't know."
He smiled, leaning down and kissing me. Softly at first but then our lips started moving together at a good pace. His arms went around my waist and I stood on my tip-toes to get a better angle at kissing him. My hands went down his shirt, feeling the soft cotton under my fingertips, I reached the bottom before starting to pull it up. He pulled back, dropping his vest onto the ground and coming back to kiss me. While he kissed me I moved my hands to me and shed my jacket off.
"You know, we do heave to breathe," Jace panted, pulling his lips from mine.
"Sadly," i whispered before pecking his lips.
His hands ran up my back, kissing my neck softly while I had my hands in his hair. I bit my lip as his hand starting moving up my shirt, over my silky skin of my stomach, pulling up my shirt as he did so. I let him pull it over my head and swallowed the lump in my throat after I saw him staring at my revealed flesh. I gasped as he started kissing further down to my chest, kissing my hot skin. I managed to move my hands, working on his black t-shirt next, pulling it over his head and admired his rune covered body. I ran a single hand on the top of his chest and ran them down his tones torso and let my fingers brush over his abs. I got caught off guard when he picked me up off the ground and set me softly on the bed, hovering over me, his naked torso pressing onto mine.
"Should we stop?" he asked me.
"hell no."
"Then we might want to get these clothes off huh?"
I helped him get me out of my tight leather jeans and let them fall to some spot on the floor. I got on my knees on the bed along with him and started working on his belt. He kissed all over my face, running his fingers through my hair as I did so.
The nerves finally caught up with me after all of our clothes were off, "Wait, Jace."
"Hmm?" he asked, bringing his head back up to mine.
"I,um, I'm nervous," I said.
"We can stop, even if we're this far."
"I want to, I do, I'm just scared."
He caressed my cheek, "Just tell me what you want me to do."
"I want to, let's just do it now, I'm ready."
"Okay, I love you."
I smiled, "I love you too."
He kissed me softly and pushed his hips into mine, sending me into a night of ecstasy. TBC
