Dan felt cold as he woke up. Phil wasn't there. Had this all been a dream? He hoped not. He could still feel Phil's lingering touches. He looked around and spotted Phil on the phone on his balcony. Smiling, he went outside.
"Yea?" He heard Phil say, "are you gonna be a good girl and listen to mommy?"
Dan smiled to himself.
"That's what I want to hear, now go get dressed, I want to be proud when I see you tonight".
Dan's heart swelled as he heard Phil talking to his 4 year old, Phil turned around and gave Dan a small smile.
"Sorry you had to wake up alone, kind of important". Phil apologised.
Dan just shook his head and put his hands on Phil's waist. "I don't mind if I get to see you being that cute again".
Phil smiled at that and softly kissed Dan.
"Thank you", Phil said, "for yesterday, I loved it".
Dan just answered by kissing him again.
"Do you want to stay for today, or do you have plans?" Dan asked.
"I promised Lily some sweets and a new toy, but you can come? Only if you want to though".
"I wouldn't want anything else", Dan answered.
"I've got to go home first though", Phil said, "change these clothes".
Dan chuckled and nodded, before following Phil to his car.
Phil lived in a nice, little apartment. 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. It was cozy. Houseplants were standing proudly around the entire house and fairy lights decorated the wall. Phil's bedroom was a contrast to Dan's. All bright colours, things from various tv shows littered all across the room, more houseplants, a thick vanilla scent. Dan smiled as he walked around. It was so Phil.
He watched as Phil came back from the bathroom, now dressed in black skinnies and a marvel shirt. He looked so good and Dan couldn't keep his eyes to himself.
"Do you want to see the rest of the house?" Phil asked and Dan just nodded.
The kitchen was next, it was nothing special but it gave the house that warm feeling it had, dishes from last night were still in the sink, the walls were an off-white and everything was made out of wood. The fridge was covered in various drawings, as well as pictures and appointments. Dan thought it was all too cute. Next to it was a small black table, chairs in all sorts of colours stood around it and on top of it was a fruit basket along with some books.
Next up was the living room, Dan saw it as he came in, but didn't pay that much attention. The walls were a soft grey, just like the couch. In front of it was a big tv, which Dan was excited to use, not that he would tell Phil. The shelves were covered with all things that held so much detail about Phil's life. Things Dan was dying to learn about.
The bathroom followed after that, it was nothing special, an ordinary shower and bath, some toiletry stuff and some bath toys, a bright yellow rubber duck sat on top of the sink and Dan couldn't help but smile.
Last but not least was Lily's room. Dan held his breath as Phil opened the door.
Just like the kitchen, the walls were an off-white, but everything was adorned by pink details. Pink curtains that fell to the floor, stars hanging from the ceiling, a little desk with organised stationary, her painting hung above it. A small pink couch was pushed into the corner, and a pink closet stood proudly on the other side of the wall. Her bed looked like it belonged to a princess, which Dan could imagine Phil treating her as. Pink sheets covered it along with a dome net with fairy lights tangled in. Shelves held countless books and storage boxes held more toys than Dan had ever seen. He gasped, it was beautiful.
Phil chuckled as he scratched the back of his neck, "I promise she's not as spoiled as it looks like".
Dan laughed at that, Phil was such a great dad.
"Anyways, let's go to the store". Phil said as he pulled Dan's hand in his. Dan tried his hardest not to blush at the sweet gesture.
They walked around the shop for ages, trying to find the specific toy that Lily had been dying to get. It was a doll with an attachable mermaid tail, pink, of course. They finally found it and Phil couldn't look happier.
They arrived back home and had something to eat before Phil disappeared for a while, only to come back out wearing glasses. Dan thought he was going to have a heart attack. "I uh, I've got some grading to do, hope you don't mind", Phil said, Dan shook his head and continued watching the tv-show playing in front of him.
Before Phil knew it, hours had passed and he heard the doorbell ring. "Shit", he mumbled as he moved from his desk.
Dan looked up as he saw Phil go to the front door. "Daddy", someone squealed and Dan smiled with his dimples popping out.
Phil put his little princess down and allowed her to walk inside. Upon seeing Dan sitting on her couch, she cocked her head to the side in a curious manner. "Who's this?" She asked in a high voice.
"This is a friend of me", Phil answered, "go ahead, say hello".
The little girl crawled onto the couch and smiled a bright smile before introducing herself. Dan's heart was beating rapidly, is this what home feels like?
Phil sat down next to him and whispered a small "sorry, forgot about the time" in his ear. Dan didn't mind.
Lily crawled onto Phil's lap and started talking about school and her friends, about her mommy and what she ate for lunch, apparently they went to the zoo today and this girl was just too adorable.
"When did you get this friend daddy? The only people that come over are uncle pj and uncle Martin".
"They only come over when you're here little one, other people come over when you're not".
"But I want to meet everyone", she exclaimed, throwing her arms into the air.
Dan chuckled and Lily looked at him. "Is he a nice friend?" She whispered into Phil's ear and Phil just nodded. "A very nice friend". Lily smiled and pressed a kiss to her dad's cheek.
"Why don't you go play with your toys while Dan and I prepare dinner".
Lily ran to her room and Phil made his way to the kitchen where he started preparing some Mac and cheese.
