"Talk to me, babe", Phil begged.
"It's stupid", Dan answered.
"It's not stupid if it's bothering you".
Dan sighed and rubbed his temples, "Why did you and Jade break up?" He questioned.
Phil looked at him. "We just grew apart I guess, both of us weren't feeling the relationship anymore so we thought this was the best option".
"So nothing bad happened?" He asked. Phil shook his head. "So realistically speaking, if one of you wanted to get back together, there would be no issues?"
Phil looked at him, "oh Dan, is that what this is about?"
"Not exactly", Dan answered, "just a small part of it", he admitted.
"Well, my love, I'm not letting you go, so getting back together is never going to be an option".
"It's not just that though", Dan sighed, "that was just some stupid jealousy".
"Then what is it about?" Phil questioned.
"I felt so useless sitting there, you guys were talking about parent-teacher conferences and vaccinating her. About her growth and her skills. About possible elementary schools, little issues, and life in general and I just, I didn't know what any of that meant", he said. "I feel so inexperienced when I'm around you 2. I thought I could do this but damn, I really don't know how to raise a child".
"And I don't expect you to", Phil said while wrapping his arms around Dan. "I don't want you to feel like you have to be this amazing parent, jesus, Dan, I barely even know what the fuck I'm doing".
Dan looked at him, "that's a lie, you're an amazing dad", he said.
Phil shook his head, "I'm just doing what feels right, honestly, Dan, I don't have a clue on what I'm actually doing". He answered. "And I can see that you do the same, and you're amazing at it. Lily loves you, almost more than me".
Dan smiled and kissed Phil's cheek, "sorry for being moody", he whispered.
"Don't apologise for your feelings", Phil whispered back.
Lily walked in right then, a huge smile on her face, she never failed to cheer Phil up. "Daddy?"
"Yeah?"
"Danny promised me we were going to the candy store", she said.
"Did he now?" Phil asked, looking straight at Dan. Dan shot him a sheepish look. "Then I guess we have to go hm?"
Lilly nodded and went to grab her shoes, Phil looked at Dan and shook his head with a small smile on his lips. "This would have nothing to do with your own candy obsession, would it".
"Not at all", he answered, grabbing his shoulder bag.
The candy store was a mess, Phil had a hard enough time saying no to 1 pouty toddler, he didn't need Dan to copy her. They were looking at the giant lollipops, Phil had said no 3 times already, but to no avail.
"But pleeeaase daddy", Lily whined.
"Yes, please daddy", Dan repeated with a smirk on his face.
Phil grimaced, "if you promise you'll never call me that again".
Dan and Lily cheered in victory before grabbing the biggest lollipop they could possibly find. Phil rolled his eyes, he was actually in love with a 6ft something toddler. He paid for the mountains of candy they asked for and handed both of them their designated bags.
"All happy now?" He asked.
Lily squealed out a yes while Dan started walking slower and interlaced their fingers. Phil quickly ran his thumb over Dan's knuckles, One of the small gestures Dan couldn't get enough of.
They put Lily to bed for her afternoon nap and moved to their own bedroom quickly after. Dan straddled Phil and looked down at him.
Phil ran his hand along his sides, tucking his hands under Dan's shirt. "You know babe? Thank god you don't have Lily full time".
Dan pouted, "what's that supposed to mean, you just said I take great care of her".
"You do, that wasn't a lie".
"Then why'd you say it", Dan whined, he was still feeling insecure, right now was not the time to say these things to him.
"You spoil lily so much Dan it's not healthy", Phil chuckled.
"Well, it makes Lily love me, so who cares", Dan shrugged.
Now was the perfect time to bring it up.
"Hey", Phil nudged his shoulder, "want to know what happened at school?""If another lady told you you were the cutest dad she'd ever seen, I don't want to hear it", Dan said as he kissed over Phil's collarbones before laying his head on his chest.
"So possessive", Phil giggled, "but no, it's something Lily said".
Dan perked up at that
"She told darcy she had one mommy and two daddies, daddy two joined later", Phil said, "Apparently the other kids were very jealous".
"You're joking", Dan replied, he was ready to cry.
"I'm not, those were her exact words", Phil grinned.
"I've upgraded to dad?" Dan asked in disbelief.
"I guess you have", Phil whispered and cooed as he had to wipe away a tear rolling down Dan's cheek. "Oh baby", he chuckled, "good tears, right?"
Dan nodded quickly, "so happy".
Phil ran his hands along his back, smiling the entire time he did so. He was so happy this was all working out, so happy that he didn't have the entire 'I hate my stepdad' drama, just a wonderful child and a perfect lover who acted like they knew each other for eternity since the day they first met.
