Phil came home with the soup later that day and found Dan whining on the couch.
"How are you feeling?" He asked concerned.
"Terrible", answered Dan.
"Poor baby", he said as he kissed Dan's forehead, frowning at the heat radiating from it. He handed him the soup and went to the bathroom to fix some medicine.
"Philly", Dan yelled.
"Yea?"
"Can I have water?"
"Give me a second", he came back with 2 pills, a blanket and a glass of water.
Dan smiled a soft smile and took the pills. Phil laid down before pulling Dan back on top of him.
Dan whined. "Phiiiil, you're gonna get sick too".
Phil shrugged and played with his hair. "Your students asked about you", he stated.
"Did they?" Dan asked.
Phil nodded, "they're so nice, so worried about their favourite teacher".
Dan smiled a little at that, he felt bad for not showing up today.
"I think they know what's up between us", Phil said.
Dan chuckled, "probably".
"They're so nosy".
He nodded, they really could be.
"Do you think I'll be better by tomorrow?" Dan asked.
Phil lifted his shoulders, "you need to rest baby, don't even think about school right now".
"But I want to work", Dan pouted. He hated laying around and being useless.
"We'll see", Phil said.
Hours passed and Dan had fallen asleep on top of him. He looked down at the soft boy on his chest and softly stroked his hair. He looked at his glowing skin, his red cheeks. His fluttering eyelashes. His mouth slightly agape. He listened to the short breaths, feeling Dan's chest rise up and down. He wished Dan wasn't sick, wished he could've experienced this for the first time with a healthy guy, but it is what it is. And Dan still looked prettier than anyone Phil had ever laid eyes on.
He looked at the clock and cursed, Lily had to be picked up in less than 20 minutes. He tried moving away without waking Dan up, but to no avail. Dan mumbled some incoherent words.
"Shh, Dan, go back to sleep, I'm just picking Lily up", Phil said before placing a soft kiss on his cheek. Dan closed his eyes again, attempting to go back to sleep.
Lily jumped into Phil's arms when he arrived at the gate. "Daddy!" She yelled.
"Hi princess", Phil said and smiled at her. "Did you have fun today?" He asked.
Lily nodded and started telling a story about how she played princess, how her teacher told them a story, about playing in the sand pit. "Is Danny home?" She asked.
Phil nodded. "But he's a bit sick", he explained.
Lily pouted. She didn't want Dan to be sick. "I'm gonna take care of him", she said.
Phil smiled and shook his head. He placed her on her feet and opened the door. Lily ran inside. Her bottom lip stuck out as she saw Dan laying on the couch. Fast asleep but looking so poorly. Phil held a finger in front of his mouth and led her to her bedroom.
"Are you gonna make him better daddy?" She asked.
"I'm gonna try", Phil answered.
"Why did he get sick?"
"I don't know darling, what do you think?"
Lily thought for a second. "I know!"
She exclaimed. "It was raining yesterday. he went outside without his coat".Phil chuckled and nodded. "Probably yea, what are we gonna do about it?"
"I'll make him a drawing", she said as she started pulling out her coloured pencils.
Phil got up and gave her some paper, watching her as she tried her hardest to colour between the lines. He heard Dan groaning and quickly went to check on him.
"Hi", Dan yawned as he saw Phil in the doorway.
"Sleep well?" Phil asked.
Dan nodded. "How's Lily?"
"Devastated", Phil chuckled.
Dan awed.
Seconds later, the door creaked open and Lily stood in front of him with her arms behind her back.
"You're awake", she said.
Dan smiled and nodded.
She crawled on the couch next to him and dropped the paper in his lap.
Dan grinned and thanked her quickly, before asking about it.
"This is you", she said as she pointed to a tall stick man. "And this is me", she squeaked.
"And this?", asked Dan.
"That's daddy", she answered. "Over there is our house, and there's the park, and here's a unicorn because I love unicorns".
Dan smiled as he listened to her ramble on and on about the drawing.
"Doll", Phil said. "Why don't you leave Dan alone for a second hm?"
Lily looked at him with big eyes.
"Why don't you go get ready for bath time? I'll be there in a second".
Lily ran back to her room. Dan placed a kiss on Phil's cheek. He looked at the drawing in his lap and smiled. He heard stories about being a stepdad, though he didn't like to call himself that, they'd only been dating for a month. But they were horror stories. He was glad Lily liked him.
