~~Thirty Years later~~
It was a beautiful day that one peaceful morning. The skies were a soft baby blue with faint wisps of white clouds floating overhead, the birds were singing and a gentle breeze brushed over the scenery lightly. A large, marble white castle sat in the middle of this clearing, and it was surrounded by homes, stores, and stations for patrols with farms littering the outskirts. This kingdom was known as Fiore, the largest one in Ishgar with the highest population rate. In the castle, over looking the daily lives of those around her, was Princess Lucy Heartfilia, daughter of King Jude Heartfilia the III and the late Queen Layla Heartfilia. Ever since she was born, Lucy's sole purpose in life was to be engaged at the age of twenty to Dan Straight from the Zentopian kingdom. And oh dear lucky her, in one week's time it would not only be her twentieth birthday, but the day she was to be married as well.
Lucy sighed. She hated this life where everything was written out for her with such harsh expectations that she's expected to follow. And to top it all off, she barely had any friends. Her only true friends were her maids Juvia and Levy, Jude's most talented knight, Jellal, and his supervisor and best strategist, Mavis Vermillion. Nobody else would really associate with her because of how strict Jude is with work, but those four always found one way or another to get to her during hours.
From her place on the balcany, Lucy looked down at the busy streets teeming with life. People and families walked to and fro, exchanging goods and selling produce. They had a harder life than her, yes, but theirs just seemed to have so much more... freedom, and she was jealous of it. Lucy looked away from the people and out to the world beyond the gates; the great outdoors. There was so much she wanted to see out there, so much she was hoping to do, but alas, her father wouldn't so much as let her lay even a finger on the doors. Lucy always found herself envious of the occasional dragon flying over head, how they would soar as free as a bird and do whatever they wanted. Granted, they also had kings and queens, but its because the dragons weren't as scared as the humans were of them that the dragons went around and did as they please. It made Lucy cringe how she realized she was practically living the coward's life.
There was a gentle knock on the door and the familiar voice of Levy McGarden spoke through the wood, "Princess Lucy?" Levy opened the door and took a step in with a long, light pink dress folded in her arms. "Your father is requesting you and he told me to get you dressed up."
"For what?" Lucy asked and a weary smile flashed across the bluenette's face.
"Your father arranged for you to meet prince Dan Straight today and he wants you to look your best." Lucy groaned but gave Levy her approval. Within no time Lucy was dolled up in a beautiful frilly baby pink dress with white heels, her golden hair held up in a bun, and with make-up plastered over her face. As they passed through the halls, Lucy waved at the familiar faces of her many friendly acquaintances like Lisanna, Elfman, Evergreen, Mirajane, and more until Levy finally brought her to the throne room.
As she pushed open the door, they were immediately greeted with the sight of King Jude Heartfilia himself talking to Prince Dan Straight of the Zentopia Kingdom. She secretly admitted to herself that Dan Straight was indeed a handsome man. He was 6'6 with black eyes, short brown hair and tanned skin. Dan wore armor that made him look like a knight and he possessed a large shield and sword, but with how weakly his fingers held on to the equipment and how it took a bit more strain to move, Lucy concluded that his outfit was just for first impressions.
"Ah! Lucy Heartfilia!" Dan said and approached her, shaking her hand a bit too roughly as his eyes scanned over her body. "Wow, you're more gorgeous than I imagined! I am your lawfully wedded Dan Straight, pleasure to meet you!"
