The pain was too much for Lucy and she passed out only three minutes after the situation began. They had to turn off the machine to wake her up again so they could get better access to her brain. Zeref was adjusting the wiring on Lucy's headwear when suddenly the loudspeaker on the wall crackled to life.
"Attention Zeref. The dragon hostages have been released from their confinements through an unknown source and the riders have gone missing from their cells. Please hunt them down, Acnologia wants at least one dead." Lucy's eyes fluttered open at this statement. "As for Simon and Rogue, please continue with the project. That'll be all."
Zeref sighed and moved towards the door. "I trust that you'll take care of things for me here, Simon. I'll be back shortly," he said and walked out of the room. Just as he was leaving earshot, Lucy heard him say, "That last part will be easy enough." Zeref closed the door behind him and Lucy felt an involuntary shiver pass through her. Simon listened for a moment before turning to Rogue.
"He's gone now, let's do this quickly," Simon said and to Lucy's surprise, Rogue smiled in response. "You know where their weapons are, right?"
"Naturally. Keyes is too proud of his magic to even guess that I was immune to his spells. I'm telling you your mother is a wonderful enchantress," Rogue said and Simon shrugged.
"I'll take that as a yes, then. Why do you keep referencing my mother by the way? I thought I made it clear that I have no recollection of her."
Rogue shrugged. "There's always a chance that your memories had been subdued by magic so I'm trying to spark a few memories for you. Do you think you'll be alright? If anyone finds out you're helping us..." Simon shook his head with a brave smile.
"I'll be careful. But I'm warning you, even if you are a shadow dragon you have to be cautious. For as long as I've known Ultear and Zeref, I'll assure you that they are extremely dangerous. Ultear is just crazy, but Zeref is the definition of bipolar. If he so much as even sees you you're dead, and I'm no different. So promise me that you'll look out for them, but now that Natsu's in the fray you'll need to get out at light speed. Do you understand?"
Rogue nodded.
"Good. I'll go buy you guys some time, the Ishgarian army is waiting for me." Rogue reached into a space under Lucy's table and took out a bronze necklace and handed it to the hybrid.
"Be careful," was all he said before turning to Lucy and removing the equipment attached to her body. Simon dropped the bronze necklace over his head and suddenly the dragon version of him vanished and a human appeared on the floor. He has short brown hair and a white bandage wrapped around his cranium with a black eyepatch covering his left eye and the lower jaw proportion of a helmet covering his lips. He wore no short but rather a pair of black pants, sandals, and a black, white, red and blue cloth wrapped diagonally around his chest that attached to the white belt around his waist. He waved to Rogue before moving towards the door and stealthily slipped through the crack of the door.
"R-rogue?" Lucy squeaked as the shadow dragon gingerly picked her up and held her tightly in his talons. He looked around before quickly moving towards a dark corner of the room.
"I'm sorry for doing that to you, Lucy, but I promise you that it was necessary. You're stronger now, and we're getting out of this together. All of us. Hold your breath." Lucy quickly held her breath before she and Rogue were suddenly consumed in shadows. It was amazing to say the least how it felt to be in the shadows, like suddenly she was seeing in 3D and that everything before had just been foggy and dim.
