Chapter 5
The whole week, Riley managed to spend his time with Cody -his new friend. They pretty much ran things coolly.
It was also good for Riley that Lola finally 'backs off' on both of their friendship. She finally handled it properly and Riley thanked her for not being mad at him for this decision.
The week goes smoothly for him; Cody and him ate lunch whenever they had time to meet and hangout after school, or just talk and acknowledge each other whenever they bump at halls.
Today was an exceptionally good day with a nice weather, so Riley decided to eat his lunch outside to feel the breeze. He slid himself to one of those wooden tables, and waiting for Cody to show up.
Lola and 'the gang' had to do errands today so they couldn't come to join him; it was totally cool with Riley.
He grabbed his packed lunch from his bag; he had time to prepare a chicken sandwich this morning and preparing lunch was easy for him, and much more cheaper.
Just then, he felt a presence looming at his back so he glanced. Cody made his way to seat beside Riley. "Hey."
"Hey," he said back, biting his sandwich.
"Yeah, sorry for being a little late."
"Nah, its fine. I just got here too."
"So, uh," Riley said, chewing. "What's up? You look like dead."
Cody slammed his forehead on the table. "Worse. I have to retake my math test later."
Riley sounded concern, "Are you failing?"
"No, but probably some day."
"Then, do you need help?" Riley blinked at him.
Cody took a peek at him. "Do you want to?"
"Yeah, sure," Riley shrugged his shoulders. "We're friends, right?"
Cody laughed and messed up Riley's hair making him groan. "I would love that Baby Doll."
Riley shoved his hands away from his hair. "Stop messing with my hair," a little bit annoyed.
"No," Cody said back, playfully and laughing. He was tousling his hair even more and Riley was getting not-pissed irritated but just bothered.
"Come on, stop," he pleaded.
Cody stopped eventually but his hands slowly traveled to his cheeks, caressing it carefully and Riley felt shivers against the back of his neck. He tracked his gaze at the boy in front of him, his hazel eyes were shining upon the afternoon light that the sun was casting.
"-OUCH!" Riley quickly yelped. Cody had squeezed his cheeks really hard.
He laughed boyishly at Riley, hysterically laughing out loud at the poor boy who was pouting.
"That actually hurts you know," Riley said with his brows furrowed, smudging and touching his cheeks that turned red. He looked like he was blushing, but it was just painful as it looks like.
"Sorry, you were too cute," Cody winked.
"Well, you're too mean." Riley was slightly offended. "And I'm not cute."
"Yeah, you're not," he mocked, still laughing.
Riley now ignored him, taking a bite on his sandwich. Cody dropped his books in front of the table. And he was now banging his head on the cover page.
