Chapter12

Riley pushed the door closed and removed his shoes. He just got home downtown hanging with Olivia and honestly he was dead tired. It was already night time and the busy streets of the city were hanging him over.

He walked slowly to the living room and noticed that the lights were off, the curtains were opened, showing the pretty city lights of LA in front of the window.

Wow, he thought as he removed his jacket and threw it on the couch. He was looking down; Cody's unit was pretty high so he could properly see cars' headlights zooming around the road and how the other buildings' lights were illuminating the dark sky.

It was very pretty.

"Cody?" He called up. He noticed that the TV was opened and no was watching.

"Yes?" Cody answered back quickly as he peaked trough the hallway arch and emerged from where he was.

Riley looked at him strangely, "Um, why're the lights off?"

"Oh," he smiled back at him. "Nothing."

He smelt something fishy about that fox smile. "Hmm?"

"Just sit down first," Cody said back to him and gestured him to wait on the couch. Riley made a what-is-currently-happening face but eventually sat his butt down the squishy lounge after a minute.

Cody went back to the bedroom and after some time, he came back holding a tray with scented candles, carefully holding them to the living room and then puts them down on the coffee table.

It was the only thing that was illuminating the whole room aside from the empty TV.

"What's that?" Riley asked curiously.

"Scented candles."

"Yeah, I know," he nodded. "What for?"

"You'll know soon, babe," Cody said, smile still plastered on his mouth. "Just sit there," and he went back to the room.

He inhaled deeply and the sweet scent of the candle quickly lingered around his nose; it was a vanilla scented candle. And he remembered that he told Cody he liked the vanilla candles when his mom buys him for his room every time.

He breathed in one more time and closed his eyes; he felt everything calm and peaceful. The surroundings suddenly felt more serene and still.

His eyes slowly opened when he heard the guitar string, strumming softly against his ear as Cody came back, holding and playing his guitar. That boyish charm of his was totally working down at Riley and he noticed how his eyes were shining even though it was dark and how he still kept that silly smile at him.

He was singing. Cody Foreman was singing at him.

"You say that Gainesville's got no soul. Well that sounds like a good excuse for coming home. And all these Tallahassee skylines, they keep singing out a song."

Riley just sat there clueless on what was currently happening. He laughed, "What are you doing?" he whispered so he wouldn't distract him for all of his singing.
