Chapter 15
Riley didn't knew if it was just him being unlucky today or the gods above were just cursing him because he didn't like how the weather turned out. He was walking on the open field, going to the parking lot to find Olivia's car when it suddenly rained really hard.
It just didn't cross his mind to run and shelter from the pouring rain but instead he just continued walking where he was supposed to go, letting him be soaked even inside his clothing.
He didn't care anymore.
He can't feel anything but numbness; from everything. He didn't try to think about it anymore, he couldn't prevent his tears more than he was doing right now.
They said it rains when the sky is crying, and maybe that is true, the sky cries because our that's what our hearts were reflecting.
He started to feel cold, but he didn't mind.
It didn't hide the fact that his tears were streaming down his face, along with the raindrops that were pouring down on him. He was trying to be okay, gripping his jacket as he holds back his whimpers and sniffling.
Riley was shaking, his hands were shaking, and suddenly voices filled up inside his head, repeating over and over again.
I told you I don't love anyone except myself. He's just a fucking distraction in my life you know?
I don't want him anymore and I'll break up with him sometime soon.
I am not fucking in-love with Riley Miller. I don't love him or like him even for one bit. Everything was just a bet.
Everything was just a bet.
A bet.
He hitched his breath, wiping away his tears when he hovered over Olivia's car; the engine had been started and he knew she was just waiting for him. She didn't even know that he was there until she saw him walking in the rain, totally drenched.
"Holy, fuck Riley!" she shouted and immediately made her way to open up the car door, holding up her umbrella.
Putting it on top of his head, the rain stopped pouring into him; water dripping on his hair like he didn't know if it rain drops or it was his own tears that were cascading down his cheeks.
Olivia's eyes were gaping at him with worry. "What the hell are you doing, getting soaked in the rain, have you lost your mind? You're going to get sick!"
Riley didn't say anything; he made a painful expression like he was ready to crumble down in pieces. He refused to open up mouth, to say anything because his lips were quivering.
She started at him for a minute, noticing that there was something wrong with him. Her facial features suddenly turned soft, "...what's wrong?"
"...Olivia."
"W-wait, are you okay?" she shuffled and looking at his face.
He shook his head, shaking it in disapproval; fighting the tears that were going to overflow.
"Let's just get you inside the car, you're quivering," she said in a sympathetic voice and led him on the passenger's seat. She didn't mind if the seat cover would get wet. She's more worried about him than carrying over something stupid.
When she pulled over the car and drove away from the school premises, the strong rain continued to pour all over her windshield. But as much as the drops of rain were sounding and echoing all over, she still couldn't tear her attention to Riley who was sounding like he was whimpering.
