Family

Gray eyes peeked out through sticky eyelids, Kai whimpering at the aches in his body. Slowly, he took in his surroundings. He was in the healer's den! Carver's scent and the scents of their family were still around him, though no one was currently at his bedside. His hand stung painfully, looking down to see it wrapped neatly with bandages. Exhaustion still clung to his body, Kai yawning widely. Every part of him wanted to go to his alpha, his wolf anxiously pacing in his mind. The white wolf suddenly spun in a circle, plopping down, sticking his face against his belly with a happy rumble coming from deep in his chest. Kai nearly jolted at the reminder, taking his shaking good hand to rest softly on his belly.

"Hi my sweet baby!" Kai half cried with joy, "I'm your daddy. I'm sorry if you got scared," Kai breathed, tears pricking his eyes. He couldn't feel anything or sense anything, but if Amilya had caught a pregnancy scent from him, Kai nervously wondered if Carver did as well. Was his mate upset? Is that why he wasn't here? Shaking his head ruefully to clear his spiraling thoughts, Kai took in deep breaths. He needed to talk to Doctor Sam and Carver. He... He was so excited! A little pup! Kai nearly burst into tears, already imagining them with dark hair and blue eyes like his Carver.

Trepidation gripped his chest regardless, wondering if Carver had been the one to clean him down. He wasn't perfectly bathed but he was much cleaner. His alpha would have certainly scented him if that was the case, right? Wrapping his trembling arms around his belly, Kai crooned softly.

"Your papa came to save us. He's a little silly sometimes, but he loves with his whole heart," Kai smiled, eyes snapping open at the scent of pine and cinnamon. Carver stared at him wide eyed from the end of his small cot, holding a plate of food that was still steaming. Kai hadn't even heard him, his mind still processing that he was even pregnant. His alpha's mouth was dropped, blue eyes darting from his face to where his arms were wrapped around his belly.

"Alpha!" Kai flushed, shyly ducking his head as a small smile curled on his lips. His mate more than likely heard him talking to his belly!

"Is it even mine, Kai!?" Carver's voice booming in the room. Kai flinched in alarm, curling hard and fast into a ball. Gray eyes blew wide, terror and shock gripping his whole being. The plate Carver had been holding fell to the floor before shattering.

"A-Alpha? Car?" Kai whimpered, his wolf howling in confusion, not understanding. Carver's large black wolf snapped and snarled at his white wolf who cowered at the edge of Kai's mind in fear.

"I-"

"Everyone God damn knows that the chance of pregnancy occurring after one heat and rut cycle is unheard of! You expect me to believe that you just, you-!" Carver raged, fury, voice filled with grief. Tears fell down Kai's cheeks who sobbed in confusion, shaking his head. Carver's scent went acrid and bitter, Kai feeling nausea roll in his stomach.

"N-No! My-My alpha!" Kai cried, reaching his hand out for Carver. Carver snarled angrily, Kai tucking his hand back against himself, curling tighter into his ball, instinctively protecting his belly.

"How many more secrets are you going to keep from me? I didn't even imagine this was something else you were trying to hide from me! I can't fucking believe I trusted you when you said you needed time. Time to what? Lie to me more!? Make me look like a complete fucking idiot while you kept lying right to my face!? I won't stand here while you continue to do that to me! While you're fucking some-some other wolf!"

Kai sobbed brokenly, shaking his head desperately. The words couldn't come out. He was so scared and upset that his alpha thought all those things. About him, their relationship, everything. His wolf yowled and Kai choked through his tears. He had been unintentionally hurting his alpha!
