Liam

I sat besides Louis as he slept, not letting myself sleep along with him.

I couldn't risk one of them taking him to do more fucking tests while I slept.

You see, we're not normal people. I can form lightning at will, and Louis can move things with his mind. They called it something, but I can't remember what it was.

I felt him start to shift, so I looked back at him. Normally I would try to act like I got some sleep, but he would actually find a way to make me fall asleep.

"You didn't sleep again," he said quietly, turning on his side to face me.

I turned around and grabbed his hand. "I'll sleep tonight, okay?"

He shook his head as he moved to a sitting position, his hand still holding mine. "You need sleep, Liam. We both know it's not good to not sleep."

I sighed, not saying anything. He doesn't think there's anything better than this. I know there's more.

Louis was only a year old when we were taken from our parents. I was four. I remember them, he doesn't. I have to show him that there is more to life than being a stupid lab rat.

Louis opened his mouth to speak again when the shiny silver door opened and one of them entered the room with a clipboard.

I scowled at them, Louis staying behind me.

"Liam, we need Louis."

I shook my head and stood, letting go of Louis's hand so he could stay down still. "Whatever it is, do it on me instead."

The guy shook his head with a chuckle. "We thought you would have given up trying to protect him by now. You two will be here your whole lives. You won't be able to protect him forever. Come here, Louis."

A slight wine came from Louis. I turned and looked at him, my face saying what I couldn't right then, I'm sorry.

"You aren't going to do anything to him. If you're going to test on anyone, it's me."

The guy knew he wouldn't win. He never does unless they sedate me.

"Okay, boys." He nodded at some people behind him. One of them grabbed my arm while the other one held a syringe with something. "Since you want to be difficult, Liam, we'll do this the hard way." I started pulling against them, but I was utterly exhausted.

"Good night, Liam. Come on, Louis."

I felt them stick my arm with the syringe, I looked to Louis who was watching me as he walked over.

"I'm sorry, Lou. I'm sorry. Fuck. I'm sorry."

I felt whoever holding me set me down on the small cot. They weren't always total monsters, bit I still hate them no matter what.

"See you later, Liam," one of them said.

My mind started to fog up, my eyes felt heavy. "Why him?" Was the only thing I could mutter before sleep completely consumed me.

*-*-*-*-

When I woke up, Louis was in a corner, crying. I sat up and stood quickly. I was dizzy, but I ignored it as I moved over to him.

"Lou? What's wrong?" I asked, looking him over before he even looked up.

His blue eyes looked into my chocolate brown ones as he latched onto my neck.

"They said it was three days. You were asleep for three days." He was shaking as he cried. "They didn't know if you were going to wake up. You have to start sleeping normally. Please, Li, please."
