Chapter One
Wendy's POV"I'll see you in the morning," I told my little brothers, John and Michael.
I reached up to take the hand of the shadow that had been visiting us since I was twelve. I was sixteen now, and I was so curious to find out where it would take me. I had always wanted to escape on an adventure. The shadow grabbed my hand.
"See you soon!" I called to my brothers as I flew out the window with the shadow. We soared up into the sky, away from my house in London. I waved at John and Michael until they disappeared in the distance. The shadow whispered something to itself that I didn't quite catch.
"What?" I asked it.
"Second star on the right, and straight on till morning." It said again.
Second star on the right and straight on till morning? I'd read enough fairy tales to know those were the directions to Neverland, a place where you would never grow old, and there were no parents to tell you what to do. But I also remembered one other thing. Once you set foot on the island, you could never leave unless you had permission from Peter Pan himself. And Peter Pan was a villain. I remembered reading terrifying stories of him murdering innocent people.
"Wait! Stop!" I shouted at the shadow.
It continued to pull me along behind it. I tried to twist my hand out of its grip, but I only hurt my wrist.
"Let me go!" I shrieked, but my voice was carried away in the wind. I tugged my hand harder, and began to thrash about in the air.
"I said, let me go!" I yelled, and to my surprise, the shadow suddenly dropped my hand. I fell through the sky, screaming the whole way down.
Peter's POV
I was walking on the beach when I heard the screaming. I looked around, but I didn't see anyone. Until they fell from the sky right in front of me. The person landed roughly on the sand, and I went over to see who it was. It was a girl! Girls didn't come to Neverland, ever. She looked about my age, kind of short, and in her nightgown. She was pretty, too. Wait, what? Where did that thought come from? I pushed it out of my head and knelt down to examine her. She had a few cuts and bruises from falling, probably a couple broken ribs judging from the way she landed, and her wrist was swollen like it had been twisted the wrong way.
If she had been a boy, I would've just let her heal on her own, but since she was the first girl in the history of Neverland and I needed answers, I healed her myself. When I was done, I sat back, not sure what to do. If I just waited for her to wake up here, she probably wouldn't trust me as much as she would if I took her back to camp and found a bed for her to stay in until she woke up. But then the boys would ask questions, and I didn't want anyone to know about this.
I decided to take her to my cabin, which technically part of the camp, just a little further away than the tents were. It was a bit small, but it would work for now. I picked her up carefully, and flew up over the trees toward the cabin.
When we got there, I landed outside the front door, and quietly pushed it open. I set the girl on my bed, and closed the door behind us. I sat down in my chair and studied her. I wondered how she'd gotten here. In what way was she lost? What was her story?
I found a glass and filled it up with water, putting it on the table next to the girl. I stood next to the bed, watching her. Her eyelids fluttered open, and focused on me. Instantly I went back to the Peter Pan everyone knew.
"Hello sweetheart. I was beginning to think you'd never wake up."
She sat up and looked around, taking everything in.
