Chapter Four
Wendy's POV
I slipped into the bathroom to get dressed, just in a t shirt and jeans. I imagined some makeup, and then wet to stand in front of the mirror. My mouth fell open when I saw the hickeys on my neck. Peter. I sighed, and put on a little makeup.
When I came back out, Peter was rooting around in the drawers of a dresser, shirtless. I tried not to stare, but when he turned around to look at me I really couldn't help my eyes darting down to those abs. When I looked back up he was smirking. Then he looked me up and down and shook his head.
"No." Peter waved his hand in the air, and I felt my clothes change. I looked down to see a dark green short sleeve shirt that was a little tight, and brown skinny pants tucked into brown hiking boots. I also had a belt thingy with a sheath for a dagger attached.
"Wha-" I began, but Peter silenced me by tossing a dagger to me. Surprisingly, I caught it. It fit perfectly into the sheath.
Peter pulled a shirt over his head, grabbed another dagger, and said, "let's go."
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"First, we're going to get breakfast. Then, we're going to the Echo Caves." He held the door of his cabin open for me, and I stepped outside.
"What are the Echo Caves?" I was picturing giant caverns where everything you say echoes.
"To get inside, you have to tell a secret that nobody knows." Peter replied.
"Um." I said. I didn't really have any secrets. Except that I might be falling for Peter. But that probably wasn't real, today was only the second day I'd known him.
"What, you don't want to go?" Peter turned back look at me.
"No, we can go," I said quickly. I wanted to hear his secret.
"Good," he said, and we arrived at a fire out where there were several boys eating breakfast. They must be the Lost Boys.
Peter and I ate breakfast, and then we set out for the Echo Caves.
It wasn't that far, only a mile or so. The whole time we were walking, I was trying to think of a secret other than me falling for Peter. By the time we were halfway there, I had nothing.
"Peter, I haven't got any secrets," I said as we walked down a small dirt path.
He rolled his eyes. "Sure you do, you just don't want to admit them. But we have to go."
"Why, do you need something important?" I asked him.
"Someone important." Peter said.
"Who?" I followed him to the entrance of the cave.
"His name is Baelfire." Peter told me.
Peter's POV
We stood outside the cave's entrance. Wendy peered inside, looking a little uneasy.
"C'mon," I said, "it'll be fun. Baelfire needs to be rescued."
"Rescued?" She asked, surprised. "I thought you were a villain."
"Villains can rescue people if they want." I replied defensively.
I would never tell her that I needed to bring him back to the camp to get some information out of him, after which I'd bring him straight back here.
"Oh," was all Wendy said.
We stepped inside the cave. Baelfire was in his cage in the middle. To form a bridge to him, we needed to tell our secrets.
