My vision blurry, my head throbbing, heart beating with the rhythm of a thousand drums, I couldn't tell where I was or what was happening around me. I had tried to blink away the haziness that consumed my eyesight, but to no avail. Everything ached, yet everything felt numb at the same time, like I couldn't move anything. I couldn't feel anything but excruciating pain in my head. Some part of me panicked, another wanted me to find out what was going on.
With all of my muscles weak and nerves out of my reach, I could barely find the energy to lift my head. When I did though, I was so startled of the direction I was lifting it that I nearly snapped my neck. Was I hanging upside down? I focused on what I saw above me, a sharp gleam stunned me for a quick second until I was able to gain my composure, or what was left of it.
I found myself helplessly dangling upside down, my legs bound by rope that was attached to something, but the brilliant light hurt too much for me to see. From what I could tell, there was a sole light shining above me, the source unknown. It seemed as if I was on some sort of spotlight. Was I being watched? I scanned the area, the blank area that seemed like an empty black void.
Where was I?
My foolish pondering was suddenly disturbed by faint muffling, followed with a scream that lasted only a short moment before there was gurgling. I could nearly imagine what was happening just by the sounds, and suddenly, as if on cue, images flashed through my mind. It was consumed with blood, a man strapped to a chair, his throat being slit slowly with a shiny knife, waves of crimson blood pouring from the cut. An entirely black figure held the knife, the only notable part of its body was its bleak white eyes. I got dizzy haunted by these horrible pictures.
A pair of milky eyes appeared nearby. They stared me down, somehow intimidating me even as emotionless as they were. The bodiless creature ambled ever so closer to where I was suspended. As it came close to me, I swear I could hear multiple voices muttering. Actually, it sounded more like one male voice, except layered on-top of itself multiple times, making it echo and ring. The words it spoke became a little more audible, but they remained at the tiniest of a whisper.
Here. I'm here. With you. Will help you. Just give me. Chance. Let me—
The mysterious whispers were replaced by horrendous, distorted screams that sounded nothing humane. The low pitch and glitchy nature seemed so abnormal, so wrong, like it didn't belong anywhere in this world. It sounded like something right out of a horror game, right out of hell.
I jolted awake. Opening my eyes, I was relieved to find myself laying in my bed, my room dimly lit. I couldn't tell if it was day or night, saying as there weren't any windows in my bedroom. I was lying on my stomach, a little drool managed to dribble onto my sheets, but something felt off. My nightmare didn't want to end there. Though I was in the real world, in reality and not the dreamscape, I was unable to move.
No matter how hard I tried to move my body, my fingers, my toes, I just couldn't. Feeling absolutely helpless, I panicked. At that point, I'd already started hyperventilating like crazy. I've never experienced this before in my life, yet I'd heard so many stories from people who've had this happen to them normally. How much it traumatizes people, just waking up and not being able to do anything for God knows how long. I thought I was going to go insane, but I snapped out of my trance and tried to calm myself as best as I could.
Then I remembered someone.
"Mark!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, although my voice came out a little raspy. I prayed that he'd be able to hear me. His bedroom wasn't very far, however, my door was closed.
